A STUDENT NURSES BURSARY IS LIKE A GRANT BUT IT ISNT MEANS TESTED AND IS NOT PAID BACK.IT IS TAX FREE.IT IS NOT A BENEFIT,ITS A SET AMOUNT THAT IS PAID MONTHLY DURING THE 3 YR TRAINING PERIOD.BUT YOU ARE STILL LIABLE FOR COUNCIL TAX ETC.HOPE THIS HELPS, I SHOULD ADD ITS ALSO A PITTANCE (WELL IT WAS TEN YEARS AGO AND I DONT THINK ITS GONE UP MUCH)YOU DONT PAY INCOME TAX OR NATIONAL INS EITHERblind-as-a-bat wrote: »can anyone define a Student (nurse?) bursary is it actually classed as an income? Calm down dear, calm down! But you know what? You're right!
Thanks mate,
I'm calm honestly. The whole borrowing, lending, defaulting, insolvency, bankruptcy, banking, consumption society is a huge round a bout where every individual plays a part, it just seems unfair that some people suffer disprortionately to others.
Just a parting thought, when the head of a big bank or financial institution gets it wrong, what pennance do they pay? Invariably a multi million pound pay off and pension package. Mmmm, my politics and economics have been described as somewhere to the right of Otilla the Hun, but something is awry in these uncertain times.

sorry for shouting... its because whilst you are training you have to work on wards sometimes and do proper work, it also covers books for coursework, internet access, travel etc.you dont have to justify what it is for they pay you it each month regardless and you choose how you spend it.There are other payments available for very hard up people, I dont know if they still do it but they used to give you about £60 to spend on books at begining of course but no one checked if that is what you used it for.blind-as-a-bat wrote: »Thanks supersavershal but theres no need to shout im blind not deaf:rotfl:
seriously thats realy realy helpfull, if its a grant would it mean it was supplied to fund a specific purpose ie books or living costs while studying etc
if so in this case what would that be?0 -
Th thing that screams out at me for some reason is DWBD's SOA, includes £86 for school meals. This is a huge amount and we were advised that we should make the kids lunches and it should come out of housekeeping. School meals are a huge expensive luxury (should'nt be, not agreeing, just stating!) So I imagine that this £86 has been added to the housekeeping, making it £386. I think the idea is that if you were really struggling financially you would be saving everywhere you could. I certainly couldn't consider school lunches for 2, a packed one more than halves the daily cost.
I also think the presentation is the key. We are all allowed a few 'little luxuries' but I think BARTs lists them better.
EG. BARTS
Telephone charges £58
DWBID's
BT £30
Mobile £20
Internet £16
My point is, that the better hidden these extras are, the less will stand out to the OR. My instant reaction to DWBID's SOA is 'Oh dear', too many little problems. School meals, internet, health cost, mobile, emergencies, and each of these has a relatively high figure beside it.
What may make it appear better
RENT 255
HOUSEKEEPING 420 (or bit more?)
GAS/ELECTRIC 120 ALLOWED 50
WATER 31
TELEPHONE CHARGES £66
TRAVELLING (MYSELF- BUS) 45
TRAVELLING (CHILD 1-BUS) 28 in September this will go up by 28 DUE TO CHILD 2 MOVING SCHOOLCLOTHING 50
CONTENTS INSURANCE 9
TV LICENCE 11
SCHOOL EXPENSES £25
CHILDREN'S POCKET MONEY/ACTIVITIES 20
DENTIST/OPTICIAN 20
BOOKS FOR UNI 30 ??
HAIRCUTS 15
EMERGENCIES/KIDS BIRTHDAYS/CHRISTMAS 50
This is clearly not exact (figure-wise), but it looks a lot better to me. Health costs looks like private health care. Sorry if this is not how you actually presented it DWBID, just trying to see why your OR was so harsh.

I was also told by The Working Tax Credit helpline, that if your family received only the Childcare Tax credit element, and not the Working Tax element, then the children qualified for free school meals, (and milk aged under 5) and fruit vouchers (not sure what age) so does any of this apply to DWBID? Maybe that could help.:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin0

Any help is more than welcome.
for the telephones it was put as being £50 per month, they didn't comment on the school meals, for the internet they said that it would have to come out of my own surplus, but I am going to argue that I need it for my studying, my health cost are actually for contact lenses but they didn't actually know what health costs they are, but I guess contact lenses are perhaps an extravangance rather than a neccessity when glasses are a one off price, so that's fair enough.
I will have to present it differently.
It was actually the debt advisor from the CAB that completed the forms for me so I just left everything to her with her being the expert.
I should have come here for the help instead!WINS of 2008 :j

I also wear contacts and glasses! So I put it under Opticians (mine are £20 per month) I did not specify contacts, and I think they are as necessary as glases. Also you can't always wear lenses, and need glasses as back up, so my monthly figure allowed for both.
I was not implying that your school meals had been disallowed, but trying to figure out why your housekeeping had been so drastically cut. The Insolvency Service advised me that school meals were seen as a non-necessity. So I think that yours were allowed but then your housekeeping cut!
I am sure the internet will be fine too, my OH kept his for work (he's a teacher).
I am sure it is just a matter of wording and presentation!:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin0 -
