M&S ISA transfer tip!

Many of you may know this but it may also save a few calls to M&S!
I wanted to transfer an M&S ISA to my new Barclays one via Barclays online banking.
You are faced with sort code and account number boxes to fill in BUT M&S only work on customer reference. You can't leave them blank so I rang M&S.
To carry out the transfer you have to enter the M&S sort code as
00-00-00 and the acc as 000000.
Put your customer ref in the Roll Number field...and then you will be able to continue with the transfer.

Although M&S have been advising using the 00-00-00 sort code and 000000 account number for ISA transfers, this is NOT being processed by some receiving banks, including Barclays!
There is now a new generic sort code of: 40-01-06 and acc: 42593769.
If you have made a paper request for a transfer and nothing has happened, ring Barclays and they will process with above details for you.

For my transfer from M&S back in March, on the Santander transfer form I just wrote the M&S client reference number in the account number space, and added a handwriten note alongside saying it was more than 8 digits, crossing out sort code and roll number.
The transfer went through with no problems. I think adding bogus sort and account numbers probably over-complicates things as M&S work on client references.0 -
These are not 'bogus' sort and account codes, they are ones that M&S have instructed Barclays to use for ISA 'transfer in' use as the previously advised noughts were not being processed by Barclays. I am not commenting on other banks as I have no experience of these.
When the Barclays operative used these yesterday he was able to confirm that it had correctly gone to the M&S system.
