Hi guys,

I am going to Cardiff next month for my aunts wedding (travelling from London)…it will be me and two other friends, so we figured out it will probably be cheaper for us to just drive up there, I haven’t got a car so we would need to hire one. I passed my test last November, and I am only 21. To be honest I don’t see how any car hire company will hire me a car, but my friends say there must be some out there.

What do you guys think, it is just better to catch the train, which will probably cost about £90 for all of us return (if we book a month in advance)..plus we will have to add taxi fares to my aunts house, church, reception etc, as I don’t know the area.

Also do you know of any relatively cheap car hire companys that hire to 21 yr olds that have had a license for just 6 months?

Thanks

You could try and ring your nearest Enterprise Car Rental Location

Looking at their website, it does look like 21 year old drivers are permitted, but I can't find any reference to a minimum length of time licence held for.

"Question I am under 25 years old, am I still able to rent with Enterprise? trnsp.gif Answer Most Enterprise office do allow renters to be under the age of 25. All drivers must be at least 21 years of age however.
Renters that are between 21 and 24 years of age maybe restricted to renting only economy through full size cars and may have
to pay an under age 25 fee. "

Enterprise are one of the few companies that do rent to under 21s as cc25 has said. But you'll only get a small car and pay extra for it.

National policy of most car rental companies is generally over 25s only. But try calling some of the major airport locations as they may have different rules.

What about buying a banger? Plenty of worthwhile reliable cars for around £500 and less. Your only problem will be insurance which may set you back £1000+. If you have about £2k available that should get you on the road.

If you google "day insurance", there are plenty of companies that offer daily, a few days or weekly insurance. I got a quote for £25 for a few days on a friends car, but then I am borderline crusty!

I've bought two cars for a grand total of £151, so the cars are out there. I'm using one for a charity rally, and the other as a parts donor.

I think a few companies do ret to 21's, well i've had a few quotes and i'm 22, cheapest i got for a week was £130, the only thing is they charge extra if your under 25, and i some charge even more if your under 23.
Cheap cars are easy to come by and maybe look a little further afield if you can.
