Criminal records checks etc help?

I am not sure if I am putting this in the right place if not mod please move it to the appropriate place but I am looking for advice I have an opportunity coming up that will involve working with children im currently self employed and the people have requested a crb check when the contract starts to be honest I did not think about it at the time but obviously they will do an enhanced crb and im now 32 but when I was 15 I was hanging around with the wrong crowd and I know this is going to sound mad but a few of my so called friends broke into my dads garage when I was on a night out with the others and what happened was we ended up at one of the friends houses that night and the others who done it also had turned up before we arrived .

But what I did not know was that the boys had broken into the garage whilst I was out with the others then the police had knocked the door and searched the property and I was arrested! I told them it was not me which it was not but they found stuff in the front of the property we had just gone too which had been stolen from my home! I was devastated I have never got into trouble in any way shape or form but that time I was wisked off to the police station I remember they bailed me but I am not sure if I was ever charged?i simply cant rmemeber back then as it was awful i just wanted to put it all behind me I never spoke to any of them after it happened moved on with my life infact I moved well away from the area I lived in. Back then I was 15 and very easily fooled.

Anyway how can I find out if its still on record?can I go to a police station and ask?its somthing I would rather leave buried if its not on my record how can I find out can I have a crb check done on myself ?some websites say yes and some say no its confusing. Will it of been wiped as I was only 15?It did not even cross my mind as have never needed a crb before I really hope it does not affect my career

In my job we have enhanced checks and I was the chair of a children's charity that required checks of our volunteers. These required enhanced checks and with these nothing gets wiped off and even cautions come up.

You may well have nothing on your record but you would be surprised at how many people do have something.

Lots of people have done something silly at 15 . Explain to your prospective employers the situation when you fill out the form . It will not affect your employment possibilities, but not disclosing something , however minor, does bring into question your honesty and what else you may be hiding.

I know that but the way I feel about it I would rather turn the position down than face the embarrasment of somebody saying you was in trouble for theft when I didnt do it and knew nothing about it at the time but still got caught up in it the people who have offered me the work are friends of my friends and my friends dont know about that back then it was so long ago i would rather not have to tell anyone but for my own peice of mind would like to know if I can find out from the police by going in and asking them?or if I can get a crb myself?

I've also gone through an enhanced CRB check, I'd advise you to put it on the form. Your prospective employer does not have to see the form. Mine didn't, I sent the form straight back to the agency.

I don't think you can have a eCRB check done on yourself, sorry.

You cannot do that level of check on yourself.

If you were convicted (which includes receiving a police caution), that will show up. The arrest could show up (it is up to the discretion of the police, if they deem it to be relevant).

I do PVG checks on people (the Scottish equivalent) and I can't imagine anyone giving two hoots about a single offence committed 17 years ago.

Can you ask your parents? I think you would remember if you were convicted, so I would declare the arrest but don't go beyond that.

Also, try and find out if the employer has a policy which would cover this.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

You can't do a criminal records check on yourself , however you can get a "basic disclosure" with details of an unspent convictions.

I'm afraid that's not the case.

But it might be so soon as there was a recent case at the Court of Appeal where keeping records of crimes committed as children was declared a breach of Human Rights.

If OP was convicted then the conviction would almost certainly be spent - for it not to be spent they would have had to be jailed for over 30 months. I suspect OP would remember that...

Thanks everyone for your input I totally understand why the system is there.I did ask my dad and to be totally honest he cant even remember that much about it other than he was the one who discovered the break in and rang the police he knew I did not have anything to do directly with it so I guess it went to the back of his mind as well from what your all saying im guessing it will come up so will have to declare it although I fear I may lose the job as a result ,its tough times in my home as husband is facing redundancy the company he works for is in so much dept it will not be long before they cease trading I cant see it lasting long and with my two boys to cater for I am trying to do everything in my power to get more work through the door so this is really important to me if only I had known at the age of 15 that bothering with the wrong crowd could pottentially affect things later in life maybe I would of made better choices. Thanks for the help and advice
