  • Do you get child benefit for the 17 year old or has that stopped because he has left education?

Do you have any other children for whom you get child benefit?

And how much is the weekly rent? (not including the arrears)
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

Sorry your in this situation, don't mean to sound so cliche but is thier any reason why your out of work? (Assuming you could claim JSA if thier isn't for a start)

At £400 a month rent and average of £400 bills (most is less) you'd still have £250 left over a month...plus £80? Child benifit.

Its not alot but its liveable...maybe you need to start doing a budget plan as well?

As for being evicted for not paying rent thiers not much you can do as no one unless its fam ofc is just going to give you a hand out...

At least they have to give you enough notice so you can find somewhere else to move to.
People don't know what they want until you show them.

The amount a couple with one child is meant to live on is:-

    £121.55 for a couple
    £65.62 for 1 child
    £17.40 family premium
    £10 wages disregarded
£17.10 wages disregarded if working over 30 hours per week

Total: £231.67 - this is the amount of household income you can have before your housing benefit starts being reduced.

If your partners wages are £283 then you would only be required to pay £33.36 per week towards the rent as the rest would be covered by Housing Benefit.

Child Benefit is disregarded as income. For every £1 income above £231.67 you lose 65p Housing Benefit.

Do the Housing Benefit Department think your child benefit has stopped? Are they aware that Tax Credits have ceased?

Have you claimed Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support?
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

Then first thing tomorrow phone and speak to your Housing Benefits Department. Ask what income and household circumstances they hold for you and if they are holding the wrong information request your claim is recalculated using the correct details.

Benefits Departments have direct and immediate access to your Tax Credit awards via the CIS system so they can see if it has stopped or not.
