Looking to get a Ipad / tablet. So much out their I need some advice please. I will looking at the cheapest one to get for what I want it to do.
Here's what I want a ipad for:
*General internet browsing.
*All I players, so thats, BBC, ITV, 4 on Demand and five on demand.
*connect to my own wi fi, and any free wi fi when out and about. Do not want to pay for any wi fi at all.
Any advide which is best out of Google play apps, or Apple apps, I know this will depend on which Ipad i end up buying.
Advice, thoughts please.

I recently got a 16 GB iPad (is it 4 the latest model, with Retina and the new smaller Lightning connector?); I got it with Tesco clubcard vouchers at a decent discount.
The 16 GB is fine unless you want loads of apps and your entire music collection on it, in which case get a 64 GB one (but they are a lot more expensive).
Also factor in a case, unless you don't mind potentially scratching it.0 -
I've got an iPad 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and the latter blows the former out of the box!! That's not to say the iPad is kr@p, by no means it's a good tablet but not very customisable if that's your forte.
With the micro SD card slot you can expand the memory of the Note 10.1 by an extra 64GB.
It really boils down to which gang you want to belong to the Apple gang or the Android gang but in terms of hanrdware and software the Note 10.1 is streets ahead.
If there's a PC World near you go and see them side by side if you can.0 -
with those requirements you could probably get away with any tablet!
things to consider are: budget, screen size, what apps you want, amount of storage required
if your requirement is purely to connect to wifi, browse the internet and watch some tv, I would stay away from the ipads as you're throwing money at a nameThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I would disagree with that - indeed, I'd say that's a very good reason to get an iPad over anything else. It just works.
If customising stuff and adding 'fluff and nonsense' is your thing, then an Android is the way to go. If you just want to pick it up and know it will do exactly what you want, get an iPad. There's a reason Apple started the Tablet trend - they build a solid product that works.
I own both the most recent iPad, and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (both required for work) and the iPad wins hands-down on every level (for me).
They both have their quirks, Android tablets do some things better than Apple, but overall you get the impression they're trying too hard - and the experience is lost along the way. Android tablets have a habit of stuffing every hardware feature possible into them - and that's often used as an argument 'for' them, but how often do these features ever actually get used.
But, as a previous poster suggested - visit a store or two and try them out for yourself. What works for one person could be alien to another.0 -

tbh of the devices I have used ipads/iphones/android phones/tablets NONE have not "just worked" - I hear people say that about apple products all the time but in the current market I think it's total nonsense - the op is looking for very basic requirements, this is moneysavingexpert after all! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Whilst I agree with that in theory, I think you also need to consider value, and whilst iPads are more expensive, I've yet to come across anyone that has one and has said they're not worth the money. They also hold value much better than any other device - because they are desirable.
If you're going on price alone, get a Playbook - easily had for £80 and will do everything the OP wants. But they're damn awful - and even at that price you'll be thinking its a waste of money.0 -

Being able to just turn it on and [hopefully] get it to do things for you the way it wants to do is what attracts the kids to these [simple] tablets.
But as JS said you're either in the Apple fanboi gang or the Android user gang and rarely the twain shall meet!
Also likewise for the Android Tabs, you can just take them out of the box and they work. The customizing is optional something the iPad is very short on.0 -
I'd recommend an iPad Mini or a Nexus 7 as they're likely to be the best for their price brackets and your minimal requirements.
I have a Nexus 7, iPad 2 and iPhone 5.What will your verse be?

I've got an iPad mini.
It's so easy to use. I've never had an apple product before, but I've never had a problem getting it to work, connect, download, sync, etc.
It's so intuitive to use.
I've had a PC for more than 20 years, and it still makes me scratch my head sometimes. But not so with the iPad, as a previous poster says, I pick it up and it just works.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Spot the fanboi here.
Only real difference between the 2 devices for you, is you can download programmes for iplayer to watch back at later date on the ipad, were as android, you can't as of yet.
Other than that for you, no real difference.
Only thing i would say is get a branded tablet. Yes the not so well known tables work just as good, but the build quality is pretty poor on a lot of them.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0
