    I just don't get this... people who have misserable existences due to third parties suddenly believe they MUST allow an innocent child to quite possibly, if not surely to go through the same.

    OP if they never contacted you, I am 99% sure that she is not sober and/or does not believe that she is the problem.

    That's exactly what I was thinking.

    The OP doesn't seem to have got any happiness from his relationship with his parents, so what benefit would there be for his child to be involved with the grandparents.

    I think you would like to know if your mother has 'sorted herself out' and will then base your decisions on that.
    is there not a family member you could approach? or a neighbour? just to find out what's happened to her.
