it expires tonight, i assumed asda would have them in stock, but they didnt.

why is avast free? and is it any good (compared to norton which costs...)

Thanks for the link, im downloading it now.

It doesn't just 'stop working' at midnight. It will still protect as before, but won't update the virus definitions.
It's always vastly more expensive to renew with Norton than to buy a new licence via Amazon etc.
But Avast or Avira will do a better job for free.

You don't need to panic, the original Norton will still work - just not update.

Norton is widely available in the older disks which automatically update when you install them meaning you can buy a much older - cheaper version.

Uninstall Norton and make sure you uninstall it all, google to find out how.

I've read that MSE isn't as safe as most people think.

I recently bought a new computer from Dell. it had Macaffee pre installed. I wasn't happy with Macaffee and also the new computer was working slower than the old one so I went for Comodo, c/w firewall, AV and malware stuff. I used this before for maybe 5 years. And it's free, just google and download.

Anyway my new computer speeded up nicely and I now feel secure.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

Download the removal tool https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us and change to free avast. Personally I wouldn't put Norton on my machine if you were giving it to me for nothing.

Nothing will happen - Just uninstall Norton - The two running at the same time will clash and cause you PC to misbehave.

Use Ccleaner to clean up you PC afterwards. Run The Registry Cleaner.

Uninstall Norton and run the Norton Removal Tool.
You can't have two AV programs on the same machine.
