Sri Lankan Airlines Flight Delay 5+ hrs - they have offered 2 free flights but ....

Can anyone advise please? I used the the template offered on the MSE site and emailed Sri Lankan Airlines Customer Services. I heard nothing and after 14 days I chased again saying I would give them another 7 days to respond otherwise I would take the matter to the CAA. I then received a very polite email back saying they had investigated and agreed yes the flight was not only delayed but also diverted resulting in our landing in Colombo at 6pm instead of 9am. The email was courteous, apologetic and offered us 2 free flights - the offer being valid for a year. However as much as this is appreciated we do not have the money to take another holiday even if it is a year down the line and we would like to try and get the money. Could anyone advise in how to proceed? Thanks in advance! Hoping I'm posting right as never done this before!

Sorry for hijacking your thread.
I had a delayed flight (24 hours) with Sri Lankan when on my honeymoon. I have sent them 2 letters (recorded delivery) and heard nothing back.
I was going to send them a 3rd and final `legal action pending` type letter but having seen your post it seems you got a response from them via e-mail.
I will try the same. In terms of what they have offered you - that is effectively a credit and not compensation so I `think` you are within your rights to refuse and ask for money.
Sorry for the late post - you might have sorted it by now.0
