Anyone any experience of this please? :)

  • Used it for my digital camera, about 1 month after calling them, to register the product, they send you a warranty certificate giving your the extra years warranty on the product.
  • I have used this on dishwasher, oven television etc. etc. They used to give two years extended warranty for platinum cards - but not anymore I think. I have never claimed though so don't know what that part of the facility is like.

At the end of the warranty they will try to sell you further cover (but not aggressively). :)
  • I've recently registered a Bosch dishwasher that carries a 2yr manufacturer's warranty. Barclaycard were most attentive that the Bosch warranty be registered first, as they used the same registration system and could thereby give me a third year of cover.

The certificate came promply after the registration call.

Nationwide give a similar warranty; though the item obly has to cost £50+ (rather than £100+ for Barcalycard).

With Nationwide you get no fee on foreign currency transactions and a better cashback scheme than Barcalycard.

I see no reason to keep a Barclaycard. At the end of my 12 months I'll be cancelling.

    Suzz,

Unlike Nationwide, Barclaycard do offer a price promise though. So if you buy a big ticket item and then find it cheaper elsewhere they will refund the difference in price?

Rafter - thanks for this info - I didn't know this...

Is there a limit on the price of the item? - I suppose you'd only bother for medium/larger purchases in any case

The item has to cost at least £50 and be a branded item I think. No upper limit although the maximum claim is £500 and the maximum claim in a 12 month period is £1000.

If say you bought a washing machine for £400 and then found the same machine for £350 within 60 days with another retailer, you can claim the £50 difference back from Barclaycard. The detailed conditions are on the Barclaycard web site.

I hate that feeling when you purchase something and then see it cheaper or in a sale a few weeks later!

  • I kept my student Barclaycard solely for the extended warranty perk for something like 8 years, then when I bought my first place at the end of 2002 used it to purchase all my appliances to get the extended warranty.

A few months back I decided I wanted to cut down on the number of credit cards I had so decided due to lack of use the Barclaycard was to go. When I rang them they made some offers to get me to stay but they didn't interest me so I cancelled it.

It was only this month that I had a problem with my DVD player and it suddenly dawned on me that cancelling my Barclaycard had cancelled all my extended warranties too, DOH! :-[

  • I have used the price promise thingy on a number of occasions - bought stuff in store then look on internet to see if price can be beaten! Have done it with portable TV, Gameboy Advance, digital camera etc.

Also I bought a new Neff cooker using the card - when it was being installed it got damaged. Wasn't covered for accidental damage on house policy so Barclaycard paid to get it fixed - lurvly!!! ;D
