Building insurance paid out, now what.....

Tell me am I ok to do the following, my conservatory got mortally damaged by snow, the insurance have agreed to payout in full after seeing quotes for a replacement, but now a builder friend of mine has said he can build me a decent extension in it's place instead of the conservatory. Am I ok to go ahead with this?

Ask them if they will be willing to give you cash for it?? after the quotation is done minus your excess then you can do what ever you want with it

if they want to build like for like then i think your out of luck.

Well, to be honest, it all seems as if has been now closed by the insurance company.

Its your money, you can do what you like with it.

Normally a claim isn't paid out until the work is done and the builder sends the bill to the ins. company and gets paid direct. Very strange.
    What insurance company is it.

There may still be a VAT element to be settled

From what I know off the insurers they said they proceeded to settlement, at which point I was given the cheque a few days later, on accepting the payout I had to agree that the case was now closed. I
Insurance company in question are paragon. Basically I just want to upgrade, off my own bat, on what they are paying me

Just for your own peace of mind, why not just give them a quick ring in the morning and get it from the horses mouth, so to speak.

Agreed just call them and ask if there are any conditions to their payout, just explain you have thoughts of an upgrade while having to rebuild anyway.
