Car Insurance Company Scam

How is it that Car Insurance Companies get away with demanding how many points you have on your licence going back 5 years when the law removes them after 4 and then adding to your premium because of that fact?

It annoys the hell out of me (especially as I am renewing at the moment) doubly so because I have just regained a clean licence after 4 long years of being a good boy yet will still be loaded against because they go back that extra year.

Hi - I could explain that it is The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 which sets out the 5 years that elapse before a conviction is "spent" ie dead and buried but you would fall asleep after one paragraph ! In a more helpful and positive vein suggest you telephone Adrian Flux who offer lower loadings for convicted drivers or try Liverpool Victoria who do not load for most convictions. Two other sites worth trying are motorquotedirect and directchoice.Elephant could be worth a try.All of the above profess to be the friends of drivers with convictions. Finally dont forget confused.com.

It is only 3 points for speeding so I suppose I should not grumble.

It's just the principle (isn't it always??)

speed kills no matter how much your over the limit.. so thats one of the reasons insurance cover is so high

    speed does not kill.

colliding with other objects is what does the damage.

perhaps instead of coming out with the tired old 'speed kills' mantra they should use some variation of 'driving like a pillock kills'.

Do you know I completely agree with you oscardog, I have just renewed 2 sets of insurance in our household and they added about £30 on for the speeding 4 years ago , what also annoyed me is the fact they added a further £20 on for having made a claim, for a theft from car claim, made 3 years ago even though I have no-claims protection.

Its very...very frustrating...........I know what the law is .........but it remains very annoying

Ohh I've seen plenty of pillocks within the speed limit...............one of them reversed into my car as the lights turned green!!!! Obviously didn't look behind him when he reversed to talk to his mate....................now that could've been a child crossing behind him expecting him to drive forward!!

Without letting this turn into a debate on speeding and speed limits..........

The day will come I am sure when the companies will ask you if you have EVER had any points (and then load your policy).

Just out of interest - my speeding was 76 on an empty motorway. Move over David Coulthard!!
