So we've just managed to get some avios flights for next easter :j Unfortunately we've had to split the family, two in premium and two in business (we'll fight that out later).
We are travelling with a 2 and 6 year old for 2 weeks, does anyone have any suggestions for good trips to do with them (the 6 year old can swim). We've provisionally booked the Beloved hotel, which is costing £3k for the two weeks, it looks beautiful, but has anyone here stayed somewhere else we should consider (good food and drink are very important, and not too much of a party atmosphere.)
We absolutely loved our holidays in mauritius, hated sharm (sultan gardens -awful room, food, drinks and very crowded), but are generally looking for a nice beach, lovely room and genuine service.
Any must sees, stays or dos much appreciated!

Swimming with the dolphins is well priced in Mexico but I can't remember the age restrictions.
The Mayan temple (Chitzen Itza?) is a no go with small children, on average 10 degrees hotter than Cancun with very little shade and a lot of walking around.
Xcaret is a fab day out. It has animals, good food, snorkeling and lots of different activities for everyone.
Foodwise, their is a McDs, Subway etc which are good for quick snacks. Plenty of resteraunts including Planet Hollywood and The Hard Rock Cafe.
I really enjoyed Mexico. The Caribbean Princess hotel is a no go, the flea market is awful as they tend to harrass you a lot but everywhere else is fine. They have a huge shopping mall/plaza as well with loads of things.
I can't think of anything else atm.0 -
Would the tulum ruins be doable with kids?0

Xel-Ha was a fabulous day out for us when we stayed a little way out of Cancun (Puerto Morelos). Around a 40 minute drive (we had a hire car as part of the hotel deal), our dd was 17 when we went but it is perfectly suitable for younger kids too.
We snorkelled - fabulous, I don't like going too much out of my depth and I felt very comfortable, there are caves, zip lines, gardens,a lazy river you go in a tube type thing on, plenty of places to eat - we did it on an AI type ticket, so breakfast, lunch & possibly dinner, plenty of drink stations, beer in kegs dotted all over, towels etc included, we just had to pay a deposit for the snorkelling equipment.
We paid extra & swam with dolphins, brilliant and there were younger kids in there too.
I may have missed out one or two things but check it out online. We had a fabulous day and would highly recommend.0 -
Oh you're gonna love Mexico, there's so much to do! Have a look on TripAdvisor for reviews on hotels & excursions. We stayed at the Riu Lupita which was great as we got to pay cheap & use 3 other more expensive Riu hotels in the area of Playa Del Carmen too. Lupita's not on the beach but they have a little free mini bus that runs every half hour to the beach & it takes you to the other hotels. We went to a monkey sanctuary & sat in with the monkeys, we did the 2 parks (you can get 2 day tickets for these), there's animals ... there too, we visited a bird aviary, we got the ferry to Cozumel, Chitchen Itza, Tulum, I even managed beat them in a timeshare & walked away with cash, drink, & a free ferry trip!
Don't be afraid to get on a bus as it's really cheap, or ask a taxi how much they charge to take you to wherever you want to go. Enjoy! 0 -
All sounding fabulous! I'm not too sure about swimming with dolphins, but there sounds like there will be loads of other stuff to do. I would like to see some ruins and maybe visit isla mujeres. Further suggestions much appreciated.0

I loved Mexico. Well, apart from the week I spent on the toilet that is(and doing not much else).
Have a great time.We went to the west coast so slightly different, but go out and see some of the pyramids and enjoy the wonderful beaches."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

Hi, I was looking for some holidays to mexico in December and I saw this thread.. is it worth organising it myself? I've never been to Mexico or anything remotelly similar.. would like a full inclusive just to have the experience but not sure if it's more expensive?
Is it better just to find flights and hotel separately? (it's what I do for all my holidays..)
I'd be going with my partner and we prefer somewhere not full of kids if possible.. I LOVE animals and seeing out of the ordinary anything would be an experience for me...0 -
I went last year with a 6 year old at the time. We stayed at the Sandos Caracol Resort in Riveria Maya. The only excursion we did was to Chicken Itza, and that included going to a Cenote, Lunch at a Mayan Place and a stop off at a town. Was a lovely full day out (I was pregnant at the time). If I went now with my baby I would still do all those activities.
As long as you prepare for the weather (plenty of water/fan etc) it should be ok for your kids.
The hotel was fab, the kids club which I have never used before was incredible, my dd was requesting to go every day, she made loads of friends. The resort is huge and loads of people on TripAdvisor winge about walking around the resort, but it really is a pleasant few minute walk to wherever you want to go around the resort. Plenty of food choice for kids as well.
Highly recommend the resort and Mexico as a whole.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -
I love Mexico ( have been twice) and would happily go again. First time we stayed at The Moon Palace, a huge hotel with loads to do and amazing swimming pools. The second time we stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach (no children here tho), it was just as lovely. The Mexicans are lovely people, it's a great place to have a holiday.0
