anonymous crime reported - now scared

    the person was dealing drugs whilst on shift :(

    Forget the guilt (and the worry). If they're doing that at work then what are they up to the rest of the time?

    It might even be worth an extra call / email

    You'll be just fine - it's hard work to trace a person from an IP address, really hard work. You can guess roughly where they're based, but to positively identify a person is approaching impossible for a mere mortal, darn hard work for the police even.

    The only people who can link your IP address at that time to you as an individual are your ISP, and they won't be doing that based on a request from some HR person at a random company.

    They will only do that if they are legally obliged to do so, so yes a court order will be needed.

    And lets be honest here, most HR people won't even know what an IP address is anyway!


    Also the above post is slightly inaccurate for the UK. They can't tell what city you are located in, they can tell what city your ISP is located in. If you've ever seen one of those location-sensitive ads and it's gotten completely the wrong city (I get Manchester) this is why.
