Sick note - when am I back in work?

Had surgery tues 23rd April. Doctors note says 'until 7th may', not 'for two weeks' etc. Does that mean I am back in on the 7th or that the note is inclusive of the 7th and I'm back in on the 8th?
Not sure if ill be going back in at all just yet, but I just want to be clear.

Thanks in advance.

I'd say back on the 7th.

Thanks. Although everything ive managed to find online contradicts that so im really confused?

I'm inclined to think 8th, as usually dates specified on a note are inclusive, but I'm not sure hence posting, and never really had time off before that has required a note.

I would say you would be due back on the 7th, as doesn't it say something like refrain from work until (7th May)

I would say the 7th but why didn't you ask the doctor at the time and when have you told work that you'll be back? It also makes more sense to go back then rather than two weeks and one day

I met with the consultant at 8am prior to the op, went for surgery at 9am and I was not seen by a doctor again at all. I was discharged at 9pm. At 7.30pm the nurse said I'd be able to home (as opposed to overnight) and at that point I'd mentioned a sick note (I had been reluctant to do so) so she disappeared and then came back with one.

So, I didn't see a doctor at all and tbh I would have been more inclined to ask how my surgery had gone as I never had the opportunity to do that either.

Until means up to, so your off sick only up to the 7th and you return to work on that date.

You have had two weeks to find out though rather than leaving it to the last minute. As I said when is your work expecting you?

From the dwp website regarding section 5 of the fit note.

'The period that your doctor’s advice covers. This will either be from the date of the assessment (Box 1), or between a particular start and end date. These dates are inclusive (so a fit note dated from 2 April to 10 April will no longer apply from 11 April onwards)'.

I take that to mean in my case I would be back in on the 8th.

I haven't been in touch with my employer as I have been off work recovering from surgery. My partner delivered my sick note to work. My priority has been recovering, not finding out when I am back in work. I don't think that's at all unreasonable, although the tone of your post would suggest otherwise.

I am sorry I have not been more timely in my enquiries, but forgive me for saying, it's not really your place to remonstrate with me for it.

I am, however, trying to find out now.

I seem to have found what I need from the dwp website.

    Thanks for the response.
