Hi Chris1012
What hob do you have or are you having? Gas or induction or anything more sophisticated?
I agree with ryder72 a flush with ceiling extraction system would really be the most efficient but £2k to £3k would be a more realistic budget.

It will be an induction hood.
Looks like it will be an Elica after all.
Found one that has 1200 extraction rate for £1100London, UK0 -

However, it does not have a high enough extraction rate for your kitchen area.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
Baumatic? Dont do it. If you insist - good luck. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Sorry my measurements are wrong.
Although my whole area is open plan its 3 sections with different measurements for each section.
Utilities is 1.3 x 1.8 x 2.1
Kitchen/Diner 6 x 5 x 2.4
Living Area - 2.4 x 3 x 2.4
I think we get around 882 extraction rate so we could get away with an upto 1000 extraction although we would like the noise levels to be still less than 63db.
Would we still need an external motor and how would that be installed?
ThanksLondon, UK0 -
If your volume works out to 882 m3, work of approx a multiplier of *12.
This assumes you are able to install rigid ducting, preferably circular section without bends. Then start increasing motor capacity for each bend you might have to put in. Remember the claimed motor capacity is at top speed so its going to be noisy. 63dB is not very quiet at all so you are probably going to have to consider an external motor.
Unfortunately, ceiling extraction is a bit of a specialist area so its hard to give simple answers. Seek specialist advice or you could find you have spent a fair bit without any tangible results. We’ve had to remove your signature. Finally got my elica galcier islan hood installed with an external motor.
Ended up with 6inch ducting throughout with around a total of 6 meters run and 7 bends.
Not sure how good the extraction rate is but on level 1 I can stick a £5 note nicely still lol
Any ideas how I can test the extraction rate?London, UK0 -
We have one of those and it is bloody noisy, even on low speed it defeats all conversation. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -
Any ideas how I can test the extraction rate?
If you wanted to test the exact flow-rate, you would need a calibrated air-flow meter inline with the ducting.
If you just want to test the extraction, you can use smoke pellets:

Coloured pellets are also available if you are trying to find any leaks. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0
