Vrigin Media, wireless boradband?

I am a virgin media customer, I am moving house shortly and when I do the desktop will be going upstairs and we'll be buying a laptop for every day use.

Does anyone know if I can get wireless internet from VM? Is it likely to cost a lot more?

If I want two computers connected to the internet, i.e the laptop on mobile internet and the desktop on a normal cable modem, do I have to pay twice?

I can't find any info on wireless internet on VM website:confused:

Thanks

it wont cost anymore, all you have to do is buy a wireless router
plug the cable modem into the wireless router then set it up

and they wont charge you anymore since its still the one connection

I am with Virgin. i contacted them to say I wanted to cancel as I wanted to go wireless. There is a specific router for cable connection. They told me to go to PC World buy one and send them the bill which they duly refunded.

Worth a phone cal to customer services before buying router.

Yep :) just dependent on router. These computers would share the bandwidth, but in practical terms this almost never ever matters.

Let us know if you manage to get a wireless router from them ashli.

We have connected to VM this week, we currently have wireless but the man on the phone said they don't provide wireless and they don't support it currently, so we would have to buy our own. Bit annoying but it will be worth it for 20Mb connection!

yeah same here. tried asking for wireless but they said they didn't do it.

so I'm going to have to get a wireless router myself

can anyone confirm which type I'd need... adsl, dsl etc.?

(I don't actually know what type of broadband connection VM does. the install guy didn't even know)

could I use FON with it?

you'd have to look for a wireless cable router - if the router doesn't say cable, you won't be able to use it with cable broadband

We bought a Linksys one for £39.99 from Currys over the weekend, was easy to install and have been running two PC's and a mac laptop off it with no problem since :)
