what can I change (diet)

we aren't allowed to diagnose on here thunderbird - gets a thread closed. I usually just urge the OP to see a GP.
saying that - there are many causes of weight gain - some benign, some not. it just makes sense to check them out before changing what seems to a normal healthy diet.
but trying to lose the weight by going on a 'diet' can lose valuable time and can affect mental health too if it isn't 'working'. I prefer to err on the side of caution and suggest a physical check up BEFORE trying one of the popular 'diets'.
There's no reason not to do both - waiting for a GP's appointment and for the results of blood tests could easily take up to three weeks.
If, during that time, you look closely at what you're eating, find something that could explain the weight increase and make adjustments, you could be several pounds down by the time you have your follow-up GP appointment.0 -
I don't disagree with you Mojisola. but, if you are eating healthily and you suddenly gain or lose weight - I think it is best to get checked out before embarking on a 'diet'.0

One other thought...early menopause? A hormone shift doesn't have to come from being pregnant. Puberty, a change in brand of contraceptive pill, stopping or starting a hormonal contraceptive or menopause can all cause hormone shifts. 37 is early to be starting the menopause but it's not at all unhread of.
But that's just another reason to see your GP tbh.Val.0 -
I've only scanned the thread but I haven't seen anyone point out that the OP is still a perfectly healthy weight for her height (BMI of 22). Maybe, and I know this is sacrilege in our thin-worshipping world, she doesn't need to change anything at all and can just get on with her life as if being a few kilos heavier than she used to be isn't the end of the world.
Edit: Didn't notice the thyroid thing, which does need checking. But otherwise? The stress of worrying about your weight is going to do you a lot more damage than those four kilos.
You missed the point. The issue is not her weight, it is the fact she is gaining weight quickly without understanding why. She is doing the right thing trying to deal with it now rather than weighting until her BMI reaches the overweight mark.
Also, it's not all about BMI but about being comfortable in your own body. I could put over a stone and still be in the acceptable category, but I would miserable and feeling very fat if I did.0 -

I wasn't diagnosing, just asking a question. The OP has already said she has been diagnosed with underactive thyroid.0 -
Contraceptive indeed can mess up with one's weightThe word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.0 -
i do sympathise as Ive had exactly the same probs!
but am now back to size 12 jeans! lol!
try porridge for breakfast add nuts no sugar or syrup. or poached egg.
try soups and salads for meals - buy veg on the market and chop enough for 2 days salads (carrots, celery, cue, radish etc) and 2 days soup/ low cost easy to do. or try weighttwatchers soups 60 cals the lowest one if you're in a hurry.
do zumba or bokwa (burns 500 cals if you get stuck in! Get a pedometer and do 20,000 steps a day and if you haven't go for a walk!! Join a walking group or borrow a friend's dog. I stepped up exercise to 2 zumba classes and long walk with a group and found it made a huge difference and was fun.
Drink lots of water.
Also the 5/2 diet is good as you can eat more on 5 days and 500 cals on the 2 days which is not that hard.
good luck! Also I take cider vinegar in water 2 a day which is supposed to balance acid/alkalinity in the body and help with metabolism. Also kelp is useful too.
Just a few things which helped me!! all the best0
