No one appears to have mentioned the fact that there is a railway station at the ground. It is called 'Wembley Stadium' (helpfully) and its served by Chiltern on the Marylebone to Birmingham route. So you could go by train from Leeds (connect at Brum or London).

I think you'll find it's in the first paragraph of my first post!

Chiltern Line serves Birmingham Snow Hill (where it starts and terminates) and Birmingham Moor Street, whereas the Virgin Cross Country service from Leeds uses Birmingham New Street. It's about a 10 minute walk from New Street to Moor Street. You then need to be sure the Chiltern Train stops at Wembley Stadium as some are a fast through service and will not necessarily stop. If it is a fast service you'll need to change again, possibly at High Wycombe.

I've used Stanmore when I went down to Lord's for a 1-day international and can highly recommend it. I read on one of the Derby County forums that someone used it for the England Under 21 match at Wembley the other week and they said that they got there early and the car park was already filling up pretty quickly. There's about 450 spaces but no option to pre-book. I'd get down there as early as possible.

That's why I suggest Watford or Rickmansworth on the Met. They will not have the same problem with parking. Stanmore is a well known connection between car and tube for Wembley Stadium and does fill quickly. Additionally, you then find it busy getting back to the M!. Personal choice I suppose?

And, as Mr_P is supporting Blackpool against the cider drinkers from Yeovil, he has the advantage of the match being on the Sunday. That means there will be no parking restrictions on most roads around the tube stations I've mentioned (note: Parking restrictions do apply in Watford on Bank Hols). So, I personally would go for Rickmansworth on the Met. Easier and free to park, quicker to get away and faster to get back on Motorway.

However, if I were supporting Blackpool I'd not use the M1 in any case. My route would be M55, M6, M6 toll, M42 and M40. I'd then park at either Hillingdon Station (299 spaces and £1 on Sundays & Bank Hols) which is approx 1 mile from end of M40 or Ickenham (185 spaces and free on Sundays & Bank Hols) about a mile further on from Hillingdon. See here for more info. These are both on the Uxbridge branch of the Met Line and the journey time from both to Wembley Park is approx 30 mins and there are trains scheduled to run every 10 mins due to the Play Offs at Wembley. See map here for station location at Ickenham. It is only approx 2-3 miles from end of M40. If you need more precise directions please ask. This is though, I would suggest, your best route from Blackpool and will miss most of the traffic and congestion using the M1 route. I travel up to Southport regularly at the weekend and always use this in preference to the M1 which currently has horrendous roadworks between J6 and J10 (40mph speed limit with SPECS - average speed- cameras).

Enjoy the match and don't eat too many tangerines at half time!!!

So you did. Wood and trees!!

In that case I personally would go for either the Watford or Rickmansworth options. Stanmore will get crowded and busy and you'll save time on the Met rather than the Jubilee Line, IMO. Up to you, but as a local to the area that would be my advice.

Watford has only 51 car parking spaces (free on sunday and Bank Hols) but unlikely will be full and there's street parking on Sunday. Rickmansworth has 250 spaces and is free on sundays and Bank Hols.

Just my opinion hope it assists in your decision?

Up the 'Pool indeed. A delivery driver who comes to my shop on Thursdays is a Preston North End fan so it'll nark him if Blackpool win![/QUOTE

I think not the * enders have been dying for this derby to get back on, and in fact many have been wishing us well.

Good year for the north west with Morecambe up as well

I was looking for advice from travelling from blackpool and we plan to go M55, M6, M6 toll, M42 and M40. So I'm going to take your advice and park at Hillingdon Station. I've had a look on the underground website, and that says 23 minutes from Hillingdon to Wembley Park on the Met line.

Gonna set off around 8.45 ish, stop for breakfast on the way, should arrive at Hillingdon for 1pm easily, then chill out, get tube down, then the awesome walk up Olympic Way, arrive for around 2pm or so.

    Sorry, forgot to add, and pardon how little I know here;

How much will it cost for this tube return journey (roughly)? Also, I take it there is some kind of machine there that we're gonna need change for, or will there be a manned booth operating?

Sorry, only just been back on the site.

Hillingdon is in Zone 6 and Wembley Park in Zone 4. Oyster Card fares are cheaper, but I'll assume you will need to pay by cash. A single fare is £3 for an Adult and £1.50 per child. However a One Day off peak Zones 2 - 6 Travelcard (which will be available all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday usually only from 09.30 on weekdays) is only £4.60. You can make as many Journeys as you like within Zones 2 - 6 with this ticket but CANNOT travel in to Central London (Zone 1) with it. If you have any children (5 -15 years) with you and you buy a Travelcard then up to 4 children can also have a Travelcard for only £1 each

Hillingdon Station should have a manned ticket office. There are also machines where you can buy all tickets, including Travelcards. Enjoy the match.

General Info if driving is that on match days Brent Council operate a mile and a half exclusion zone around the stadium. Unless you are a business or resident permit holder you will be towed. So park at a tube station near the motorway and tube it in to Wembley Park.

Virtually all Chiltern Railways services stop at Wembley on match days and they have several stations with large car parks on the M40 corridor (Warwick Parkway, Banbury, Beaconsfield for example) which are free on Sundays to park. However the tickets can be quite expensive, but 4 people do travel for the price of 2, so worth it for a big group maybe?
