I would like to buy a new 32" TV. I'm not sure if the up to date thing is LCD or LED.
I'd like a brand name.
It will be used to watch sky tv so need to be able to connect the sky box to it.
Also need to be able to connect an X Box and a DVD player to it.
I last bought a Sharp for Grandma about 18 months ago. She is happy with it but the other day I discovered it only has one scart socket. I was surprised. Obviously didn't do my research properly! Anyway we wanted to watch a DVD so had to disconnect the virgin box and put the DVD scart in.
I would like a HD screen. Not sure what resolution I need.
How many HDMI inputs will I need and what are they used for?
Do I need a VGA PC input and USB and what do I use those for?
The Sharp cost about £199 so would like cheaper than that as prices are coming down.
But if I want it that cheap and branded what compromises will I have to make etc
TIA.

You won't get anywhere near the level of connectivity you require with a cheap telly.

HDMI is simply a modern kind of SCART cable for connecting Sky, X-Box, Blu-Ray etc.
PGA is for connecting your TV to a computer.

Your budget is not realistic unless you want a supermarket badge job such as a Technika.
Look at the Richer Sounds website for some decent budget brands such as LG or Samsung. But not for less than £199. Look for a set with a minimum of 3 HDMI inputs. That's what you connect your Sky box/Blu Ray player etc with. Even high end sets have minimal SCART connectors now, as HDMI has replaced them.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Realistic advice to me as usual macman.
I was v happy with Richer sounds for Gmas TV - had a warranty too.
I've had a look on Internet & have seen the better ones come with only 1 scart but a few hdmi as you say so thanks for your advice. Didn't realise hdmi replaced scart so that makes sense to me now why they have less scarts.
I like the idea of connecting the computer to the tv - why would you do that or what do people do that for?
There's also a good guide on MSE which I read so I'm a bit more knowledgable now.
Paid £199 for Gmas about 18 months so so I can live with £199 this time but or peak get a few extra hdmis to what Gmas got bu she didn't really need them.
Still not sure though if its LED or LCD I'm supposed to be looking at?
    Thanks :)

    I'm currently looking for a 32" TV.

I'm looking at LED as I prefer it's vividness over standard LCD.
I was going to go for 1080p over 720p but I've read on AV forums that on a 32" screen you can't really tell the difference between them. So will save some money there.

I've been looking at a Toshiba 32BL502 on Richer Sounds for £199. I'm also looking at the Finlux brand as they've had some good reviews despite their budget image.

You could buy a scart/HDMI splitter if you run out of ports.

Personally I don't want to spend a lot of money, neither do I want to buy something that will take over the room. There seems to be an obsession with people buying huge TV's that look ridiculous in their living room.

    I bought a Toshiba Regza 32 " TV about 3 yrs ago maybe 4. Cost £410 & I've just checked its got 2 hdmi and 2 scart.
I've been v satisfied with it.
Its my sister looking for the tv now so I thought I'd help her with the research. Thx for your info.

I promise you that the 55" we have in the living room looks fabulous rather than ridiculous.
