How reliable are the cheaper broadband providers?

Hi,
I've been with BT for a few years. The absolute cheapest they can do standard (adsl) 40Gb download BB and free evening and weekend calls is £10.65/mth + line rental.

I've gone on some comparison websites and some of the lowest are between £3.50 - £5.00 for unlimited BB & Phone + line rental. Quite a saving!

My question is: How reliable are the cheaper ISPs like TalkTalk Plusnet Tesco etc?

The BT sales guy said the cheapies throttle your bandwidth at peak times. Is that true? And is it often?

I currently get about 3 Mps download speeds

Since Plusnet is a BT company and runs on the same BT network, it's reliability will be exactly the same as BT. Would you really expect a BT rep to give you an impartial view? TT use their own LLU network. It's cheap, but the CS is poor, and don't expect meaningful tech support.
I'd start with a samknows exchange search for your available LLU options.

No, and I didn't say I did. But neither do I automatically assume everything I'm told is a lie. That is the reason why Ive posted in this forum.
