Cheers for the links - top one seems promising, thus then tries to install spam/spyware first..2nd download, doesn't work. Oops. I'll keep looking. I understand about tracing the grid lines etc, but they are very high voltage, and the TV needs to be tested with the chassis 'parked', ie stored vertically. As I don't have all the necessary safety cut off/earth equipment at home, ie not in a workshop, might give that a miss for now, unless I can get definitive answers regarding this colour decoder TDA chip mystery that isn't listed in the chassis, but not specific model manual I already have. Will have to haul the beast out and do cold checks only...

It doesn't matter where you bought the telly, standard definition broadcasts never look as good on flat panels as they did on CRTs. It's amazing that we've accepted the end of CRT mainly for the size of the new sets rather than the quality of their pictures.

I've become something of a HD snob to be honest, I find I can't even watch BBC channels in standard definition.

The point i was trying to make is that telly's such as the Pioneer Kuro series are very very good for standard definition content due to the processing engine they use. Get any Kuro tv professionaly calibrated and you'll think its your old CRT.

    RIP Pioneer :)
