Car insurance admin fee rip off
Comments
-
Hi, I'll ask here rather than start a new thread.
Does anyone know which car insurers penalise less heavily (or even not at all) for change of address?
I know I'll be moving within the 12 months....
Not a recommendation, but aviva and swiftcover are 2 that I know allow you to make changes free of any admin fee if done online.
Changing address is material, so expect a premium alteration up or down whichever company you go with.0 -
wow i feel so lucky when i changed vehicle details admiral only charged £16.50 admin.
i would be polite with them and ask i know the admin fee is xyz, but under hardship cercumstances at the moment and i really couldnt afford to pay that amount and see what they say, i wouldnt go in shouting !!!!!! is that charge for thats extorsion im changing insurers on renewal etc. be polite and dont be afraid to ask.0 -

I bet if you move to a less risky area, they will just keep the premium same. I find it hard to believe that an insurance company will say "oh this is a less risky area so the premium is less, here's £200 back".0 -
You'd lose your bet.
Same would happen if you changed from a new Jag to an old Micra.0 -
I don't agree that all budget insurance companies are the same. I am insured with Octagon Insurance and they were by far the cheapest for me. They don't charge admin fees for moving house, etc. They once charged an additional premium when I moved but that was due to moving from a house with a garage to a terraced house where I had to park on the road.
When I bought my semi-detached house with a driveway they didn't charge anything for change of address.0 -

you sure? I was referring to reducing premiums mid term of the insurance. Say you paid £1200 and then moved from London to Cornwall during the term. Will they voluntarily give back say £400 of what you paid?? Any actual evidence of that?0 -

Any difference in premium either up or down is worked out in the exact way and then requested from the client or refunded along with the addition of an admin fee if appropriate.
It's a very common situation with all Insurers although most people tend to make their premiums more expensive by buying newer cars which are often more expensive than the equivalent older car0 -

Of course they will. I had a return premium on both home and car insurance when I last moved house.londonTiger wrote: »Will they voluntarily give back say £400 of what you paid?? Any actual evidence of that?
My other half had a return premium when she changed her car.0 -
On reflection I wouldn't say that I am 'sure'.londonTiger wrote: »you sure? I was referring to reducing premiums mid term of the insurance.
