Food shop at Fort William.
Plockton has a very nice restaurant that serves Cullen Skink. You should try it when you are there.
It's so lovely there, but be prepared for poor mobile reception.“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.”

I have wrote all the places down. I am so excited I can't wait. We are staying in Glendale near Neist point, so some of the places are quite near. We have the car anyway and the maps, wllies etc lol. We are hoping to take the ferry at mallaig as the bridge seems a bit underwhelming. I have just got a bigger memory card for all the pics I will take, so Thanks guys for the advice.
One last question: Would I be better to food shop in Fort William or actually hope the village shop has what I will need.?
Thanks
Maureen
The bridge is just a bridge like any other bridge dunno why anyone would think otherwise.
Regarding Skye, if you are not experienced in driving single track roads, take your time and let traffic behind you past, it could be someone on their way to an emergency or just a local trying to get to work. Enjoy.0 -

There's a pretty good Co-op in Broadford but Fort William's supermarket is larger,

There's a decent Morrisons in Portree for your food shopping - I don't see any reason why you'd need to do your shopping in Ft William.
As for things not to miss - I love the Fairy Glen and Eileen Donan Castle (it's the one you always see in visit scotland adverts etc and the tour is quite entertaining).Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Thank Everyone:beer:
Will do initial shop in Fort William and top up in portree. Take the ferry there and the bridge back. Not looking forward to the drive and supposed wet weather but will enjoy myself nontheless.Maureen0 -

We were there at the beginning of April and had glorious weather despite the forecast so you may be lucky. my recommendations are: Portree for the nice little shops, artisan bread, fish and Cafe Arriba for lunch if you get a harbour view window. Book a table for lunch at The Three Chimneys... definitely worth it and not as expensive for lunch. Swimming in the Fairy Pools after lunch. Do lots of walking, whether beaches or hills or mountains...lots for everyone's ability. Sea kayaking if the weather is good gives another aspect to the island. I'm jealous...!!Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)

ON the journey some of the motorway servbice stations are overpriced and even a bit depressing. I fill up/get grub at supermarkets next to the motorway.
I've used Carlisle Tesco, Preston Bamber Bridge Sainsburys etc.
We found the secret to a smooth journey is -
every stop's at least thirty minutes no matter how you try to speed it up, so- one stop for food
one for petrol.
Change drivers each time, with a toilet visit.
If you're driving solo, you've got to keep stopping and need plenty of coffee to don't skimp either of those.
The M6 Toll's a lifesaver!
These websites have been very useful for cheap petrol and finding Tesco Asda Sainsbury petrol stations

Plus of course you could always use the main supermarkets store locator services.

Zagubov those website links will be a godsend.Thank You. Will definately use them. I always find petrol a bit more expensive on the motorways. We are stopping at a friends on the way there, in Glasgow so can fill up there anyway.
Medsdemom, hope we get glorious weather too. The good thing about taking a car on holiday is that you can pack everything you think you may need, wellies......flip flops! Hopefully we will see some wildlife. We went dolphin watching for a week in Scotland (moray) about 6 years ago and never saw one!! Hopefully we will be lucky this time.
