How to align BT Phoneline saver and Broadband contract?

Hello all - first post here :),

My BT phoneline saver and BT broadband contract run and expire 6 months apart due to the ever helpful BT failure to notify service. Try as I might it is apparently impossible get anyone to be helpful and sort out a way to realign the dates....unless I want to pay way over the odds and run one of the services out of contract for 6 months. Does any one have any experience with fixing this ???

Thank you for reading.

You don't need to have BT broadband to have BT line rental. You can switch or renegotiate each contract at expiry of minimum term (your contracts never just 'expire').

    macman,

Thanks for your reply. I used the word "expire" because when when my contract ended I was transferred to standard payment and with out the curtesy of any notification (unlike the phoneline saver where I was asked to renew).
The BT rep I spoke to stated I was not in a contract any more so it feels like an expired contract to me. Maybe I'm missing your point though?
I agree it is possible to take either of the courses of action you suggest but that is unlikely to realign the contract end dates and broadband only deals are few and far between plus generally expensive.

Then wait until the 'latter' minimum term contract date arrives and renegotiate both as a bundle. You don't have to 'renew' your contract at the end of it's minimum term-if you do nothing it simply continues.
You are not out of contract, you are simply out of minimum term, and you remain in contract until such time as you give and serve your notice period.
If you broadband contract has reached the end of it's minimum term, there are dozens of alternative suppliers who will be happy to sell you broadband only, and cheaper than BT.

    macman,

    Again, thanaks for your answer.

So the fact is I did nothing at the end of the "minimum term" so if I am still in a contract for BT broadband. Presumably the contract also stated reduced monthly price for minimum term followed by std monthly price thereafter...
So why did the BT rep I spoke to say I was no longer in a contract then?
I have Plusnet as broadband only supplier but there don't seem to be many others at a sensible price.

    cheers,

You are always in a contract until you give and serve notice. The BT rep meant that you are no longer in a minimum term contract. You are now on a contract requiring 14 or 30 days notice.
I suggest you refer to your original terms of contract. Presumably the promo deal was 12m and has now ended. If you wish you can negotiate a new deal in return for a new minimum term.
Or (better) wait x months for the other minimum term to expire and move the whole lot to PN.

    macman,

I have looked around for broadband only deals...there isn't much going that helps my situation. The phone and broadband deals are much better. I'll save more then when the two contracts come into line on there own.
It's frustrating and I'm grumpy with BT - I'd like to move now but patience is the order of the day.

    Thanks for your help.
