I've been quoted £203 by One Call, including breakdown cover and with only £100 excess charge. I'm going to take it. I've spent so many hours trying to find the very best bargain, and be smart and clever, I'm exhausted. I can't get any money back from a money back site because One Call isn't registered with them but that's okay. I reckon that's not a bad price for insurance, legal cover and breakdown cover. But some insurance companies are so greedy. And I'd not claim anyway if I could help it because of having to pay the excess. Talk about a racket. It's really time that we in the UK started a revolution.
Yes, a revolution, or better still just one that is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of price and cover.
My renewal with OneCall is around that price. Interestingly they didn't show up on any comparison listings this time around.
Anyway, I've gone with AA this year given it works out £1 cheaper including Vehicle + National Recovery + At Home + Onward Travel which is better value all in than with OneCall whose breakdown cover is limited.
Two things that are annoying ...
1) Auto renewal: We purchase our policy online so why is it we are provided a means to cancel auto renewal of car insurance and breakdown direct debit online too?
2) Fees: When we look at what we are paying we end up paying fees of around 25% every time and impossible for us to find a way of purchasing the same policy direct.
So, in my case it works out around £125 for the insurance, around £25 for fees, and £60 full breakdown cover.
It takes time to follow MoneySavingExperts guide but it is well worthwhile even though we clearly see now that "fees" push up the cost.

Several quotes apparently from different providers (Lloyds, Post Office, Halifax M&S, O2, RAC etc. - all one side or the other of £250. A few days later I was then advised car would be available a day earlier than I thought when getting quotes, so went back to sign up for earlier date. Nothing else changed, apart from filling a mobile telephone number I was advised I had missed off my original submissions. Final act of confirming the purchase requires confirmation of the month of acquisition of the car. Click to confirm and then, as requested, click update and ....... premium goes up to over £400. This happens on all of the half dozen most competitive quotes. All are provided by BISL/Covea.
Yes - the "Golden Rule": Beware - checking for quotes more than once even a few days apart these websites "remember"; fishing for better prices by changing something - even just a mobile number.
What I do throughout the day is clear my browser cache and remove all cookies, and - most important - at end of day after closing my browser I go to the folders Temporary Internet Files ["C:\Users\[Name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files"] and App Data Local Temp Files [C:\Users\[Name]\AppData\Local\Temp] and manually delete all folders and files listed there.
I've actually done this between getting quotes and seen the rise reset back to what it was earlier though of course we also must keep in mind that getting a new online quote doesn't guarantee no change.
The statement "valid for 30 days" does work, it's all a question of using that original link for the specific policy listed in the email the comparison website sent to you or retrieved on the comparison website.0 -
The Cheap Car Insurance guide is a godsend. It takes time but I'm sure we all are thankful this guidance exists.
On the "fun" side, have a look at some of the quotes from these comparison sites listed at the very end
MoneySuperMarket Car Insurance ...
Top of the list: £144.35 Voluntary £250 Compulsory £150:T
Last on the list: £1,883.16 Voluntary £0 Compulsory £3000:eek:
The cars is only worth £1,800.00:rotfl:0 -
Hi all, I noticed yesterday that Confused.com are offering a £20 Texaco fuel voucher for all car insurance policies taken out via their site until 31st May 2019.0

The current amazon voucher runs out at 23.59 this evening (22/05/19). A couple of days ago I got a quote and saved it not realising that the promotion only worked if you purchased immediately without saving the quote. So, as advised, I asked for another quote and tried to pay for it immediately. There is no way that they will accept payment online. I keep getting a message saying I have made an error with my payment details. I most certainly have not! It is really annoying. I am using my visa debit card and there is definitely enough cash in the account. I am tempted to try with a saved quote to see if the payment will work when the offer is invalid.0

This is always said in context of adding a parent when the main driver is young.
I have saved a lot of money for good friends (driver is 86 and alerter than most middle aged drivers) by adding myself (aged 60) as a named driver.0 -
Hi. I have just got a very good quotation for car insurance from Saga via Confused.com, and am very tempted to take it. I'm interested in Protected No Claims Discount and have searched their website to find out what % discount they apply for any given number of years without a claim. I couldn't find what I was looking for so contacted them. Their response was that they only deal in years and not %. I pointed out that unless you apply a monetary value to a 'discount' i.e. as £ or %, it's meaningless and other companies happily provide this info. No joy. Ok might not be a deal breaker but a bit bizarre in my opinion.0

I've just gone through the pain of getting renewal quotes (again).
Sadly MoneySupermarket doesn't seem to like me as it has been spinning around [not] getting quotes for the last three hours.
Anyway, not to worry, my quote from Go Compare was over £100 less than from any of the others0
