CapitalOne replacing my card due to suspected fraudulent activity

    It could have happened anywhere you have ever used your card. i wouldn't worry about it, no need for the Police to be involved, they won't be interested anyway.

    Could have come from anywhere - literally any shop (online and real) that you used your card in could have been the source, either due to a dodgy employee or outside intrusion.

    Once they had your card details (and possibly address if it came from a hack), then they will have started getting other info such as your date of birth.

    I've dealt with scammers in the past who had a list of credit card numbers as long as your arm, all for different names (and even countries) and each time a card "failed to authorise" they would supply another one. Think my biggest haul was 20 or 30 cards from one scammer over a 5 day period.

    So you never use your card at all then?

    Everytime your card is used. The details are available to someone...
    As you worked in banking you will know the level of checks made before you got the job....
    Yet anyone can get a job on till's, taking orders over the phone or in the back office with total access to card details without so much as a check to see if they have any record or not.

    Given the goods came to your home address odds on some retailer you have used has been hacked, or someone has taken the details.

    Contact the company to let them know you have a product they need to arrange collection of.
