Should be a quiet few days!

The last time I was in Phuket was the week after a US Carrier group had been in town for shore leave. You can only imagine what carnage several thousand thirsty and randy sailors can bring to a place... although with Patong it can be hard to tell the difference.

You should go there for a day. It's certainly an eye-opener.

Did you decide on stopping in Karon, Kata or elsewhere?

Back from Thailand! We stayed in Karon Beach. I know what you all mean when you say it like a mini Russia! Funny when locals speak to me in Russian expecting me to reply in Russian. Did not bother me so much being lost of Russians, most people on our day trips were mixed origins.

Don't think I will bother with Bangkok again, that city has changed a lot since my last visit in 2006. Some Thais are not as friendly as before, taxi and tuk tuk drivers are greedy, and shop keepers seem to have a thing against anyone touching merchandise on display.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We stayed at Kata Palm resort and spa with our 6 and 8 yr old.

When booking, the thing that won us over was the pool + room luxury. We were right - the pool was lush and the room was v comfortable for a family.

However, I wouldn't recommend it. Staff are surly, birds flying round the restaurant pooing on tables and not being cleaned by staff, other staff feeding the birds in the poolside kitchen. Too grim for me.
Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Our resort had 3 fab pools, lots of staff etc. disappointed with a poor breakfast choice and son get bed bug bitten badly.
overall nice place but I too over touristy for my liking, plus a bit expensive for Thailand.

My experience of breakfasts in Thai hotels is that they are either spectacular buffets of every food you could name (and a few you couldn't) or they are very disappointing.

I'm not much of a breakfast person anyway. I usually sleep through the brekkkie hours then grab something later in the morning from a food stall. The one thing with Thailand is that you'll never go hungry as there is always food everywhere.
