Phuket family hotel ideas

Just been looking some more, but off the island. Suggested Khao Lak earlier as we had stayed there prior to the Tsunami. The hotel we stayed in was unfortunately wiped out, as we revisited a few years later. This is a really nice one there as we stopped for a meal, to remember how nice it was in the area before the disaster. It is related to the one I linked to on phuket. Off the island, but worth the stay.

just another question please
is Kata or Karon beach better for family type holiday? (want some restaurant choice etc) but get mixed reviews between the 2 places, if anyone can shed some light.

I never made ot Kata but my understanding is that it is quieter than Karon (some would say too quiet). Anyway, the two beaches are next door to each other so it would be easy to stop in one and do a day trip to the other. You may get a more detailed response on the TripAdvisor forums.

Bangkok
Need some help on hotel location choice...was looking for a central hotel near train (BTS/MTS) shops etc..
is it better to stay near Nana/Asok or Silom area?
want something for around £30-40 with b/f but clean rooms.
was tempted by Asoke Residence but mixed reviews on TA.0 -
Personally, as a single traveller, I tend to stop in the Nana/Asok area as it's right in the middle of things but it might be a little too lively if you have a young family. Silom is quieter, a little cheaper, and is good for access to the river. Both areas give good access to the BTS.
There are literally hundreds of hotels and guest houses to choose from to suit all budgets. As long as you stay away from the international chains then £30-40 should get you somewhere very decent. The Asoke Residence looks OK but you should be able to do better.

I am only going with my son (almost 12yrs) so want something clean and quiet but near trains, restaurants etc.
getting lost in the choice!
options
Ibis Nana (hear its on red light area, no pool)
Ibis Silom (sounds good but not near BTS, no pool)
On8 (near Nana, not cheap £44pn)
Belaire Bangkok (Silom but at £49pn)
(pool not essential but nice to have for an odd dip)0 -
Some would say that the whole of Sukhumvit is a "red light" area but the part you really want to avoid with a young son is Soi 4 around Nana (home of the infamous "Nana Entertainment Plaza" and lots of girly bars) so I would say that the Ibis Nana is out as it is right on Soi 4.
I think Silom would suit better. You can easily get to Sukhumvit during the day and early evening but then return to Silom for nighttime. Have you looked at Silom Serene, it may be towards the top end of your budget but it looks as if it is family friendly and in a quiet-ish area - though remember nowhere in central Bangkok is going to be very quiet as it's pretty much a 24 hour city.0 -
