Crack on, myself and the Mrs gave up 4 1/2 years ago , the money we have saved over that time has paid for a 4 year old top of the range mitsubishi shogun that we both love to bits , we also know that if we started smoking again we wouldn't be ablto to afford to run it , keep up the good work !

I stopped smoking by going cold turkey about 2 years ago after reading 'The Easy Way To Stop Smoking' by Allen Carr and would highly recommend it.

I found that it made me think completely differently and, after 30 years as a smoker, made me decide to go for it.

I carried around photocopies of certain parts of the book with me which I would read whenever I got the cravings and, after 3 or 4 weeks, I realised that I wasn't getting them anywhere near as often.

I don't normally like any of the Americanised self-help books but this is one I would recommend to anyone considering stopping.

    Congratulations!

I gave up smoking when I was pregnant, and just thought about the baby coughing every time I felt like having one.

(I know a cell or two, conceived 2 weeks earlier, doesn't actually cough, but the image helped).

I've just calculated that since I quit smoking I've saved around £12,000. That's amazing.

I stopped 13 months ago. I still miss them most of the time. Just accepted that the craving will probably never go away.

You need to read Alan Carr's Easyway to Quit Smoking. This will help you to overcome the way are feel about the memory of cigarettes and enable you to be a happy non smoker for the rest of your life.

Missing them most of the time sounds like torture and a state of mind. It doesn't have to be that way - the physical addiction of nicotene has long passed out of your system, you just need your brain to catch up now!

Shepherd, you may well be missing the hand to mouth experience of just doing something at a particular time of day, or activity.

I think you've done well without the nicotine up till now and can't see the point of going back to it.

If you find yourself seriously thinking about having a fag again, you could try keeping a zero nicotine ecig around in case you feel like using it.

I had the same thing with driving, as soon as I got into my car I had to have a fag in my hand. Took me ages to get over that.

I haven't smoked for 20 months and am still vaping. I have no plan to stop either. I enjoy it alot more than smoking, it's more of a hobby type thing for me now. LOL
I know it probably sounds a bit strange, but we're all different. :D

Have you thought about making changes to your morning routine so there's not an obvious hole where the first fag used to be?

It could be something really simple like drinking fresh orange juice instead of tea (orange juice and fags just don't go!)

It could be something really extravagant like spending the £7 odd a day on a superb shower gel/ shampoo that you can enjoy more knowing you and others around you will be able to smell it all day without the fags taking over.

I really admire you. I quit when I was pregnant, and if I'm honest pregnancy was the only thing that would ever have got me to stop. I'm incredibly impressed by anyne who is strong enough to decide to stop x

Thank you all for taking the time to reply and for giving advice.

This morning wasn't quite so bad but I still didn't get up at my usual time (well it is saturday).
