I've twice sent letters asking dwp to look at the decision again for putting me in the work related group of esa, first time i rang after about 4 weeks & was told that there was no record of my letter &someone would ring me within 24 hours,no phone call, rang again &told someone would ring within hour, again no call, got on to my mp's office who investigated & told me to write to bradford benefit office & send rec del or as i had to see advisor at local office, ask to send by internal post, which i did, that was 6 weeks ago & i still haven't had a reply,is this usually the case that they mess you around to put you off appealing?

Did you get a receipt when you gave it to the advisor?0

In that case call Bradford BDC and ask them to confirm receipt. These things do take a while to get into the system, but you should of had an acknowledgement by now.0

There is no way of contacting benefit offices directly, unless you are in a position like my mp's office, who has a direct number, but won't divulge it, there is only an 0845 number for ESA enquiries, which has cost me £5.00 to date in phone calls with no response forthcoming0

The 0845 number on your letters will take you through to your local BDC. That is not the office you attend, it is the processing centre that you need to speak to.
If you'd bothered to say please or thank you even once I could have given you a local rate number for Bradford. Perhaps the JCP staff would be more helpful if you took that approach with them?0

I don't know if it is 'usual' or 'intended' so can't answer that part of your question. However, my partner's reconsideration and appeal were both acknowledged and then 'lost' (several times for the former) - I would suggest initiating a first tier complaint and this may then get them to deal with it properly ... even if it doesn't then it will allow you to escalate it earlier to someone who may take it more seriously.
 Good luck with it,
 Dee
