Connect wireless printer to Desk Top

I have just bought a new wireless printer and having trouble setting up. Epson
I have set it up to work with my laptop without any problem. It is printing both from the computer scanning and copy etc.
I now want to set it to my desktop but I am getting messages saying on the Computer Printer not found
Printer says set up failed.
Not sure what to do next? Wonder if anyone can help me.

I know I can rely on someone to help and would appreciate any advice, At least now I can print from my laptop but I have a lot of photo's and documents on the desktop so would like to be able to use the printer from there too.

My old printer is plugged in should I disconnect it and uninstall it??

That printer still works but is not printing the black ink which is why I have bought a new one. It is now out of one colour of ink and don't want to spend any more money on ink for it.

Many thanks

Sue

The make and model of the printer, along with the version of windows may help.

Some Epson printers need a USB lead connection to set the wireless up

Thank you! My desktop is Windows XP and the Printer is Epson XP405.
I remember when I changed my epson printer the last time the USB cable from the old one fitted the new one.
If I need to use a USB cable would I take it from the old one and it should plug into the new printer ? When I check on the printer it says that the wireless connection is good or excellent. I have taken the printer into the room that the desktop is in. It told me to have the printer near to the laptop and it set up first attempt.
Advice would be great and once thanks for yor swift response

Have you checked the wi fi set up section here

    Also the problem solver

If no change, and you can contact them during office hours, whilst with the desktop and printer, their live chat will usually set it up with you.

As to the old printer, if it is out of ink and you won't be getting any more for it, it can be disconnected.

If the printer is going in the same place as your old one just remove the old printer and use the existing USB cable to connect the new one unless you particularly want the desktop to connect wireless.

Thanks for that suggestion. I don't need the desk top to print wirelessly The new printer will be going in the same space and I see a place for a cable so I should be able to identify which is the cable.
I will do as you say and just disconnect the old printer. Should I uninstall it or just remove it without doing anything .
I have been tinkering with this all afternoon so I am going to leave it until tomorrow. I set up the laptop and the printer in about 30 mins just a case of letting it work its way through
I don't what happened when I lost the connection and I have to set up the complete system from scratch
I will read the epson guide before I do anything else.

Again many thanks to both of you for your advice and information

Hi have not tried to set the printer up on the desktop. Looking at the laptop and it is showing the printer twice and one says copy! Does this mean that I should remove one of them
I have read and looked at the epson link you gave me. Will have a go tomorrow again Thanks

You can set the first as the default printer, then remove the copy

I would let their live chat install it with you, then if you get any problems in future, you can run through the e-mail transcript.
