Asus K55VD-SX234H
Bough one last week. It is a solid bit of geeky laptop wizardry! I love the sleek aluminium case it's built in.
Comes with Windows 8, an Intel i5-3210M processor, 750GB hard drive and 6GB ram, more than enough for anyone who plays games or uses photoshop.
It's the best £500 I've ever spent, and I'm usually very hard to please.
I think you can get one on DABS.com for a good price. I bought mine from a local store.0 -
Please, give us a little Information from which you'll be using this laptop. If you're just going to browse/watch movies and do light tasks - you will not have to spend more than £350. However, if you're a gamer and use heavy processing task you'll be looking at £550 + with a decent i5 or i7 CPU.Save £2013 in 2013

This is an amazing price for the specs of this machine. I've been using this for the past 3 months and it works well. Runs cool and quite, along with a good mid-range CPU. Even down to the integrated Graphics - Intel are getting better.

If you are 'moving on' from a Desktop, do you want to move on to a smaller and lower resolution screen?
Because with any of the laptops above, that is exactly what you will be doing.
You can buy a laptop designed as a Desktop replacement(larger screens), but you'll find they are relatively heavy with a relatively short battery life.
We had a recent thread covering just this subject and the best laptop at that price point to come out of it, was this SONY VAIO E17 for £499.99.
That model has a Full HD 17.3" screen coupled with dedicated graphics.0 -

Have no idea. You'll have to ask SONY, but it's up to two years dependent on the model.0 -
With £500 - 600, you can go for intel i7
These two are the best spec I manage to find under £600

However, for your use, you can simply go for i7 or i5 machine with integrated GPU
