Keep an eye out on Currys refurbs. We got a HP Pavilion g6-2210sa For £299 inc delivery at weekend, other than the box it was brand new. Cheaper in red for some reason.
Decent spec too for the price
15.6"
i5-3210M processor
6 GB
1 TB hd
Only weak point is the relatively low res screen.
Usually appear every few days.0 -
With £500 - 600, you can go for intel i7
These two are the best spec I manage to find under £600

What use is an i7 when he is just downloading the odd movie?
If it's a Desktop replacement, he be dropping down to a relatively small and low resolution screen. An i7 processor won't help with that.
As above, if dropping down, he might as well just spend between £200 and £300 for a half decent laptop and get an extended warranty.0 -

I am not saying he need a i7. I just inform him what is the best spec availible with his budget.
If you clicked on the last link, it is a toshiba i5 for £380 only.
Laptop direct sell that with £400, but they offer 3 year warranty for extra £40.0 -

I understand. Debate is for the benefit of the OP. Personally, I would take the 'manufacturer' extended warranty, even if I had to pay a little more... or less.0
