I hope that I can get some advice in this section from anyone but if not and if there is another section to help please advise.
I have just built a new website and gone live with it a couple of weeks ago. Is there a way I can get the website up the google listings for free? I have spoke to the people who webhost for me and they have told me about meta words? It is all a new area for me as computers are not really my thing so I do feel slightly out of my depth here.
Any advice would be most welcome.

There are quite a few posts about this in the Techie section.

Your webhosts are clueless then, there used to be a time when Google would base some of a sites position on the relevance of its keywords, these days are long gone though and Google disregards them almost completely now.0

Thanks for the replies and help.
I will look at linking other sites and the tech section. Jamalfatty, my webhost told me about "meta words"? I had to write words which were relevent to what I was promoting and I did this but I did not feel confident with the words. Are you saying that this is a waste of time anyway?0 -
metawords were abused by people trying to get their site ranked, so the search algorithms tend to ignore them nowadays. Having relevant words in the content, links to your site, unique words, and loads of pages linked to the main page is more relevant.
The reality is that trying to get into the top few pages of google is pretty difficult.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Add your site to Google here

A company sent my friend a fax yesterday about getting the website onto the 1st page of google guaranteed? They want £495.00 + vat per year and said that the will make sure we never leave the top ten websites on page 1.
We never contacted anyone about this, it just came as a mail shot from them.
Is this a load of rubbish or can they actually do this?
Any thoughts either way would be welcome.

No company can make such a guarantee .... apart from Google itself. £495? Save your money ......0
