Change of Broadband-advice needed, please!

Hi everyone!

We have been with BT for phone and broadband for as long as I can remember. My husband used to get his broadband paid for through his company so it wasn't a problem. Now he has moved jobs and we've got to pay.
At the moment we have a capped broadband limit at 40GB (which isn't enough and we end up paying £5 extra each month). I have said to hubby we need to change but he is hesitant because of a change in e-mail address and phone number.
I have done quite a lot of reading up about this but am still unsure as we've never done this before. As far as I can see we would be saving a fortune per month so it definitely would be worth the hassle of swapping. I also read somewhere (Sky?) that we wouldn't need to change our phone number?

What does everyone think? I've looked at our online bills and can see we pay £41 d/d per month but this must include a small amount of calls (I have a mobile which we use for most)

I like the sound of Plusnet and Sky and they are available in our area.

Any suggestions or tips on swapping would be gratefully received.

Thank you :O)

You have to be careful about losing your email service. I know with Virgin Media, you can lose all access to your mailbox so try and back up everything first of all.

Why don't you just move to an unlimited contract with BT.
If you move you will lose your email account, but would keep your phone number.
Plusnet is a BT company, which uses BT's infrastructure.

Plunet is considerably cheaper, so why not have a haggle with BT.

As above, if you don't want to switch, just upgrade to any current BT tariff-they're all now unlimited (subject to FUP).
To avoid future email issues, switch to a non-ISP-dependent email service such as GMail-it takes about 10 minutes to set up an account.
Switching to Sky (or any other provider) will not alter your phone number.

Thanks for the advice. I'm on to BT now to see what they can offer me!
