Never been to a JC one, I imagine it is a job fair. I went to one a few years back, horrible experience. Like speeding dating where there are 1000 men in a room and only 1 girl. Massive queues, you sit down with a guy for 30 secs, hand them a cv, they will ask what experience you have, and you leave.

    May be difference though.

Depends how well organised it is but they are usually quite useful. Usually themed such as Health & Social Care Employers & Training providers or Construction etc. If the organisers have got it right, the employers there will have real, current vacancies.

Thanks for your help, is it like an interview process, or is it you just hand the employers your cv, also do I need to take several copies of my cv to give to employers, as Jobcentre have told me nothing, as usual.

Job Fairs can vary- Why not ask the JC who "invited" you what the format of this particular one is .

(BTW "Take your CV" means take lots of copies to give various prospective employers not just one :) )

Take some copies of your cv with you, but also think about how you can sell yourself in a short space of time. The questions they are likely to ask will be very straightforward - what experience do you have in this area, what skills can you bring to this role etc? So if you turn up smartly dressed (not everyone does, so this already puts you at an advantage), with a shiny cv that you can use to point out all your positive attributes, it should be constructive for you.

I can't state enough how important it is to look the part. So many people treat this as 'another Jobcentre thing' and turn up in jeans. Make sure you are the one that stands out for the right reason ;)

Thanks all for your advice, my advisor is not very forthcoming with answer to questions. Will take many cv's

Also if it is possible, look up who is there and research one or two you are particularly interested in - a bit of understanding of them and empathy with company values can do a lot to help you stand out from the masses.

Definitely go, some good advise here. It sounds like a good opportunity and you might even get an official job interview out of it. Wish my Job centre would put something like this on.
