Simplest way to buy and pay for Android apps

I personally don't bother with AV for android. So long as you only download from Google Play or Amazon then rogue apps should not be too much of a worry. I also only download apps that have been around a while and have a lot of users. Some people insist on using AV and there is a good range of apps of varying quality/impact on performance.

Yes, Play Store is Google's equivalent to the iTunes store.
The Gmail app will only access Google email accounts. There is a separate built in app on Android called Email. You can set this up to access other email accounts via POP3/IMAP/ActiveSync depending on what the email provider has available. If FSMail doesn't support these then she can access them via the web browser. It will either be called Browser or Web (my old HTC called it Web, my current Nexus calls it Browser). These are the equivalent of Safari.0 -

Exactly what he says... but types faster
Any app page on play has recent feedback reviews on it, I always have a quick check as plenty of clever people out there soon find any rogues and flag it. I also avoid things with low number of installs yet.0 -
Thanks sg.sillygoose wrote: »I am sure you will get your Ainol soon: cool:, everyone is using 2nd class or cheaper couriers since Royal mail hiked the prices so high.
Once you have your gmail account, when the tablet arrives first you will need to get the wifi connected, usual way.. go into settings ...wifi and put your wifi router password in. Then in settings...accounts you just need to put in the gmail account details.
Then when you open the Play Store (formerly Android store) it will connect into your account, show what apps you have, which have updates and so on.
Before that, you can always explore the Play store without.
Also if you also have Grans gmail account details you could sort of remotely manage her tablet from your PC by logging in Play, you can remove apps for her, or find an app for her and install it remotely.
I live in a different house 30 miles from Gma. I'm not going to muck her tablet up am i by putting my wifi details in ? It'll be delivered to my address and I thought I'll set it all up for her before I Give it to her as she's no patience and will want use it straight away.
I realise when I then take the tablet to her house then I'll have to connect to her wifi with her wifi network.0 -

Lol. You pair are fast typers - when I posted my next bit there were already two replies!
I love you people on these boards - so helpful and enthusiastic.
That's a good tip about feedback on apps as I'd overlooked that aspect when I buy an app.0 -

The app called play store then is the equivalent of my App Store on apple iPhone.
The gmail app is for email.
She has an email address at the moment with orange. The old fsnet address. Will she access those emails on the tablet by going on safari - or is the web on an android called something else and safari is an apple thing.
She has an iphone4 but I can't think off the top of my head how she gets her orange emails on her iPhone.
Safari is the name of Apple's Browser, the Ainol with have a generic Browser on it that works OK but you can install Android versions of many Browsers from Play including Google Chrome etc.
Personally I only use Opera, its free and renders pages beautifully, it also runs BBC iplayer well. It would be the first thing I install.
If you know Grans favourite websites you can preset them by browsing to them in opera then saving them to the speed dials that open when you start Opera.0 -

You can put yours and her wifi details in together, wifi only works a few hundred feet at best. It will connect to whichever is in range. If she bring it to your house it will connect to yours automatically instead.0

You can buy gift cards apparently
http://www.androidcentral.com/google-play-gift-cards-officially-land-uk-tesco-and-morrisons-board
Buying apps is pretty much the same as it is on ios
You will need a google account to buy apps like you need an apple id to buy for ios
Google wallet will show all transactions from the play store and any credit from giftcards / codes etc.
Thanks RT. when I was searching I couldn't find anything about this. She has a local morrisons so that'll please her.
I'm really pleased i can buy gift cards as the credit card being overcharged and hacked for in app purchases is an absolute pain when trying to get a refund and proving you didn't buy in app purchases etc. It's the one thing that took the shine off buyng them all an ipod and iPhone. I think it was about 2 years ago now but it spoilt it at the time.
The tablet is for Gmas 70th birthday so I want it all to be nice for her.
Tbh I think she'll only read the paper and go on youtube do some surfing and read her emails. She might not buy many apps now but at least she can if she wants to.0
