in Water bills
Hi
I have just had a new boiler fitted, the plumber found that my stock !!!! is on the pavement to the front of the property. It is a shared one, 3 houses, so when its turned off for any reason 2 other houses loose their water as well.
He said that if I rung the water company, and explained, they reduce your water bills, for the inconvenience. Does anybody know if this is correct? I rung my local water supplier, Southern water, and they said they had not heard of it.

This is my opinion, a little knowledge from experience.

no they will not reduce your bills if you are on a shared supply, your plumber is talking rubbish !0

The only thing I can think of is that if you are on a shared supply you cannot have a water meter fitted.
As a result, if you were to ever apply to have a water meter fitted they would be unable to fit one and would offer you a capped charge as an alternative.
Depending on the rateable value, this could be more than your exsisting bill - but if you are a single occupant you could definately benefit.
For example, if on Rateable Value, your bill is £405 per year.
You could apply for a water meter, and be offered the Assessed Volume Charge.
the prices varies from company to company but for UU:
Detached (includes houses, link detached houses and bungalows) £510.79
Semi detached (includes houses and semi detached bungalows) £472.47
Other household premises (includes flats and terraced houses) £376.63
Single person household
£272.60
So if you were living in the property on your own, having a shared supply would reduce your bill.0 -
you can fit water meters on shared supply's0

The vast majority of shared supply's can have a meter, either internally or at point of entry into the property outside0

Seems very odd as like i say you can fit internally or at point of entry into prop by tracing supply,i guess company's all work differently0
