Bought from eBuyer via google checkout - dont do it!

I bought an item from ebuyer using google checkout.

The item has a fault and needs to be returned.

As I bought it via google checkout I need to contact ebuyer via google checkout - who simply forward the communication on.

To return an item to ebuyer however you have to log in to the ebuyer website to do an online request for a returns code (an RMA).

As I do not have an account with ebuyer - I then set up one with the purpose of trying to set up a return.

Having set up the ebuyer account - the transaction (unsurprisingly) does not show as it was via google checkout.

Several emails have now passed between myself and ebuyer explaining all this - with them constantly stelling me to arrange the return via their website - which I cannot do as their site only allows it with a transaction code - which you can only get if you have bought direct from the ebuyer site - which I did not.

I have tried to ring ebuyer - using a geographical number but as soon as i mention it is a return they refuse to deal with it and direct me to the 0871 number. Which as i have found on at least 10 occasions of trying, if you ring at any time of the day states there are 19 people ahead of you!

My only other option now is to either start a dispute via the google checkout site or contact my credit card for a refund.

Anyone had this?

    Is this of any use?

Having just placed my first order, through Google Checkout, with eBuyer I'd like to know how you get on. It would appear that the only initial course of action is through your Google Checkout account.
Good luck, I just hope my item is o.k!!

setup a account with ebuyer using the exact same email address and details as google it should then pick your order up, my google orders are showing on ebuyers site with no problem
  • I did set up an ebuyer account with all the same details as with Google checkout purely to try and access the details of the transaction. The problem is the transaction was not registered because it was done via Google Checkout.

I have raised a dispute with Google Checkout only to be told by them that the return still needs to be done via ebuyer.

At this point I am banging my head against the wall as I cannot view a transaction in Ebuyer that was made in another website and the Ebuyer site does not allow a return to be requested without going via the transaction.

This morning I have rung the 0845 number for Ebuyer - this number does not deal with returns - and told them I wanted to make a complaint that I am being prevented from arranging a return .

The lady was actually very helpful. Although she could not deal with the return - she DID however go through my security details and give me my login details.

These login details are totally different to the ones set up in Google Checkout - or the new ones I later set up in Ebuyer.

Apparently - and this info is not displayed anywhere that I have found -

if you set up an account with Google Checkout and then buy something from Ebuyer using Google Checkout - Ebuyer will then, in the background where you cannot see it and will not know about it - set you up an Ebuyer account!! The login details AND email address will be generated by Ebuyer and they will not be anything you have ever used!

You will not know any of this as all your communication will be via Google checkout.

The only way you will find out is when you come to set up a return via the Ebuyer website - as the Google Checkout site merely sends email to Ebuyer telling them you want to return something - and you normally get a reply back saying you have to do it via the EBuyer Website.

That's fine - until it then transpires that you need the login details to the Ebuyer account you did not know you had - and which was set up when you carried out your original transaction on the Google Checkout site.

To get any further you MUST obtain THESE details and the only way I found I could do it was by phoning the customer services number at eBuyer - 0871 521 3300

The lady at Ebuyer told me it is a common teething problem as they have only recently gone over to being affiliated to Google checkout.

You may wonder after all this why did I use Google Checkout instead of buying direct from Ebuyer.

Well in the spirit of moneysaving, using Google Checkout give £10 off purchases over £30 from various retailers.

    I don't think I will bother again.

Thanks for the update. What a nightmare!!! Same reason here re the £10 discount.
As I posted, hopefully my item (external Seagate hard drive), when it arrives, will be o.k. If not I could be regretting "saving" £10.
After your experience I doubt I'll be using Google Checkout again. Probably fine until there is a problem?

You need to log in to you ebuyer account BEFORE making your purchase and google checkout to make sure it tracks in you Ebuyer account too.

I have to say I went through google checkout and part of my order wasn't delivered, I called them on the 0870 number as I couldn't find a geographic alternative and got through almost straight away. Money is now back on my card for the missing item and I still kept the £10 disocunt on the rest of the order (which had only come to £31).

That's useful - presumably you would then get quidco too!

That's interesting. However, I registered with eBuyer, placed my item in "cart" then proceeded to Google Checkout. Registered my details there and submitted order.
Just checked my eBuyer account and the order isn't showing. I did receive confirmation e-mails from Google though.

Quidco: it's down to 0.1% isn't it? :rotfl:
Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.
Baldrick: Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
    Blackadder: Yes it is.
    Baldrick: Hmm... that's cunning.

Is it? I usually use dabs, get 3% off them. Hardly worth bothering for 0.1% unless it is a very large order!
