Ahh, but when I got TG4 it was without any extra electronic means. A small set-top RF aerial, no SKY, NTL, or Freeview in use. If I can receive TG4 without the need for any of the methods above, can I also receive RTE1 without an RTE aerial?I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

It's very unlikely. Do your nieghbours have one or two aerials erected? I don't know strong the signal is in your area but usually two aerials are required.
One for UK terrestrial based Tv and the second aerial for Irish terrestrial Tv channels."Food has replaced sex in my life. Now, even I can't get into my own pants."0 -
The reason you can get TG4 is that it is being broadcast on analouge to viewers in the north to promote the Irish language and if I'm right it's one of the conditions of the Good Friday agreement.
The reason you can't get RTE on sky is that it is supplied to NI users through their family pack (or higher) subscription packages. RTE was never to be FTA.
TG4 is FTA on Sky.0 -
Thanks all.....but I won't be paying NTL just to catch the Angelus of an evening. Will have to make do with the Simpsons I think.I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. Just to advise, brother-in-law has been in contact with RTE and they confirm that no GAA will be blocked, so at least some good news

Am I right in saying that if you get your hands on an ROI sky viewing card you could get RTE on the FTA package, which would include Premiership games on a Sat.
You can easily pick up such UK FTA cards on ebay for £10/£15
Is my logic correct?0 -

Sky block RTE2 on saturday afternoons if showing Prem Football (the buggers  )I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
I think you have picked me up wrong.
I realise that Sky users in NI have an NI regional viewing card which now has RTE (+blocked Premiership footy)
However what I am suggesting is getting a friend with an address in ROI (or buy it on ebay) to buy a ROI viewing card. Sky sell UK FTA viewing cards for approx £10/£15 which is for people who do not have a subscription to Sky, but want to use the receiver to get FTA channels such as BBC1, UTV etc.
The key is that in ROI a similar card would have RTE enabled as a FTA channel, without the NI based encryption, therefore enabling your receiver to believe that you are in ROI, and allowing you to receive premiership footy.
I would appreciate any techies picking holes in this.0
