Outlook 2002 & Gmail - pop help needed...

I have just succesfully set up a Googlemail email account and have set up my outlook accordingly however, whilst my outlook will recieve emails to my googlemail account it will not send them from my googlemail account :mad:

I have checked all settings, addresses and port numbers as in the googlemail instructions but just keep getting a 'verify email address' error...

Can anyone help?

you may need to set your outgoing email server to bulldog

for your outgoing / SMTP setting - use mail.bulldoghome.com

Thanks Browntoa, you have a good memory (ie my isp Bulldog!)...

I have tried that, including changing outgoing ports etc to bulldog settings and still I get the same 'verify email address' error!

Any other ideas...

Why don't you let GMail configure the email client settings for you, I found this was the most reliable method.

Thanks Cledor - really thought I was missing something then!!! The link you posted is where I got the pop settings from which won't work...

Lots of head scratching going on here...

Have you enabled POP in GMAIL
Have you ticked the "server requires authentication" in Outlook and saved your gmail address & password

Edit: just found the page to allow you auto configuration http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13273&topic=1556

Yes to all your questions (I can recieve email but just not send from outlook) and still cant find auto configuration page - your link just takes me back to settings list/instructions that I used before!!!

Strange, if all the advanced settings were entered (smtp 465 etc) I'd expect it to work, unless Bulldog are blocking it, I know they've got problems with their own email servers but this should not affect access to other servers.

I think the auto config was done when I activated POP3 in the settings, not sure if that's still done in the same way, and I can't try it myself here.

Tell me about it, it's because Bulldogs email is down (again) I am setting up a gmail account... Also strange I can recieve from gmail server but not send from gmail server via my outlook!
