Easy peasy. Live with parents. Save save save.

What about single people? Are homes now only afforded to those who have been lucky enough to find someone to share their life with?

What if you don't have any parents? What if your parents are separated and their new homes don't have room for you?
For some people, living with parents is just NOT an option.

I think your view is very "2.4 children" and society just isn't like that anymore.

    ISTL was impressed :D

    Graham,
You invariably misinterpret posts so please do not try to impose what my feelings are.

I thanked rugged for pointing out your childish school yard behavior in attempting to mock some unknown person's size.

    I certainly was not impressed.

My son unwittingly mocked me last night.
He's four and brought through 2 apples (one for him and one for his sister)
He asked me to juggle them which I did, to which he said "Oh dad, your such a clown!"
It made me laugh (you can laugh at yourself you know)

    Are you 4?

That's the individuals problem then, not societys. The 2.4 children, married couple was a good model for all the reasons you argue against. People need to be less selfish.

It's selfish not to be able to find a partner? Selfish to find that your partner decides to leave you? Selfish if your partner dies? Yeah right.

ETA I'm not saying single people ought to be entitled to buy a house as easily as couples. Just that describing single people as selfish for being single is bizarre and unjust.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Here we go again 'please sort my life out someone and hand it on a plate when ready to my liking'.

Homes are to be afforded by those that can afford to buy them.
This bizzare entitlment attitude really is toxic.

It's not selfish, it's economics. As women entered the employment market, it meant that couples had more money to spend on homes... thus creating an increase in house prices beyond inflation.

2.4 children (well, > 2.1) is still a good model for society if we want to maintain our population level

I agree with Conrad - house buying is not an entitlement. The market will set to a level at which people can afford, naturally. Otherwise, no one could buy a house and prices would drop.. to the level people can afford it at.

'Nobody is priced out' is wrong - Only those who can't afford it are priced out :) The market will decide who those are...

Conrad, the thread's about whether anybody is "priced out". The argument seems to be that since couples (and especially couples with two full time jobs on average salaries or better and with no childcare outgoings) can earn enough between them to buy a place then "nobody" is priced out. The fact that single people exist and may well be unable to buy even though couples can is a point to refute this argument, without implying that single people ought to be entitled to have anything handed to them.

So why do you write to MPs complaining that someone on an IO mortgage has found their bank is starting repossession procedures?

Seems odd that you are all for everyone sorting themselves out, UNTIL someone with a house already starts to lose out.

You've started plenty of threads on here complaining of such things.

I took a quick look on a Maidstone property website this morning.

Loads of 2 bedroom decent flats for around 120K.

Good to hear that Maidstone property prices are so "cheap". :money:
