Should I worry about TV Licence?

How would you prove you never watch it? Not sure these sort of organisations would just take your word for it. Might be better for you to all get together like adults and discuss it before it gets nasty as I think the fine is huge but not 100% sure how much these days it used to be £1000 or so.
The onus is on them too prove you do, not you to prove you don't.
If you don't watch live TV, disregard the letters and tell any doorstep visitor to go away.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
no tv inspector can enter your premises without a valid warrent
there are many funny video's people post on youtube where they are enraged when refused access
just search and have a nice laugh
basically - you dont have to let them in if you answer the door to them
and if you dont' answer the door - its not your problem0 -
I live in a house with 5 other people (we don't really talk much, weird situation)
I only ever go into a) the kitchen or b) my bedroom, don't care what happens anywhere else.
Please tell me you don't use the kitchen sink.
If you don't watch the TV then you have nothing to worry about. Ignore the letters and don't answer any questions from doorstep callers.0 -
I'd use a different phrase ending with k off after being accused of a crime by them when I was in possession of a licence.
Except that no-one in the household is in possession of a licence - that's OP's query.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

Do you have individual tenancies or a group tenancy? If it is a group tenancy, you need one licence. If you have individual ones, then your friend could probably just buy a licence in his name (but would possibly have to keep the TV in his room). Have you told him that, as far as you are concerned, it is his responsibility to buy a licence.0

You ain't understanding the question..
For example if he watches live TV on the TV.. should I care?
If I understand correctly, you live in a house where you each have your own rooms and you share the common amenities?
If so, what another tenant does in their own room is their business and their business alone.
If they choose to break the law in any way, shape, or form then that is their problem, not yours.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -

Yes that is correctQuiet_Spark wrote: »If so, what another tenant does in their own room is their business and their business alone.

Indeed, but the TV that one of them bought is in a communal area (the living room).. like I said, I don't watch it though because a) I never spend any time in there, b) don't watch live TV anyway and c) don't want to break the law0 -
Draw up a written agreement between you that as you do not watch T.V. that you will not be liable for a contribution to the licence fee.
Or:
The owner of the T.V. moves it to their room and is solely resposible for purchasing a licence.0
