It isn't DLA that qualifies you for the BG Warm home discount. you have to have other qualifying needs, otherwise I could have just shown them my DLA award letter to qualify. They didn't even want to see a copy of my DLA award letter.

That's because the companies are notified by the DWP of all those who qualify for the discount. Those that qualify don't have to apply.

This link gives the new details for this year. See part 3 for eligibility and note that it will be worth £135 this year.
At a guess the qualifying date will be 20th July? Last year it was 21st July so I am guessing date ATM.
It only applies to electricity bills and is intentionally done that way so that you have more actual money to pay for more gas or oil or solid fuel. Not all electricity suppliers offer a broader scheme, so check the links out to see if your does.

    No it is not
This is the government general notice

and this is from EON's website

    https://www.eonenergy.com/for-your-home/saving-energy/need-little-extra-help/warm-home-discount

you will find those that are guaranteed the £130 listed at the bottom of the page

the winter fuel allowance is a yearly payment, paid to ALL pensioners regardless of income. cant remember the amount offhand but it is a few hunfred pounds.
the warm home grant is a payment of £130 given to people on certain means tested benefit.
    how is it even similar?
apart from the fact that it helps to pay for electricity?

    Just to clarify:

Only those 75 or over and getting the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (even if you get Savings Credit), or under 75 and only getting the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit qualify automatically.

However most energy suppliers also give the discount to a broader group, who have to apply for the discount if they qualify under the utility providers broader criteria which varies between providers. The DWP does not notify the utility company for these people.

More info, and a list of participating providers here:
