warm home discount scheme

Hi I've tried phoning EON on this but they couldn't help.

Please could you tell me if I can claim Warm Home Discount for my adult daughter who lives with us and is on ESA Support Group and DLA LRM & LRC.

So far I've only found forms that ask if its myself or my husband that qualifies, neither of us do, but it costs a lot to keep the place warm for her.

Also is this something just for Electric?

Thanks

As she is not liable for the bill (or the partner of the liable person) she will not qualify.

So put the bill in her name?

That would work, but best to ensure she meets the other criteria before doing so - she would need to be on IB ESA to qualify.

I thought that this scheme was for those who are over pensionable age:

    EON
aged under 80 and receiving only the Guarantee Credit element of Pension
    Credit (no Savings Credit)

aged 75 or over and are receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension
Credit, (even if you get Savings Credit as well)
  • Check here to see if you are eligible:

    http://www.eonenergy.com/for-your-home/saving-energy/need-little-extra-help/warm-home-discount/warm-home-discount-form

But it is only if the bill payer or partner qualify, so the account would have to be put in your daughters name.

    Taken off the EON website

    Who automatically gets the discount?
For 2013/14 we will use information given to us by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to automatically give the discount to customers who were supplied by us on 20 July 2013 and were:
aged under 80 and receiving only the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (no Savings Credit)
aged 75 or over and are receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, (even if you get Savings Credit as well)
This is referred to as the Core Group rebate as part of the Warm Home Discount scheme.
The DWP will write to you from September 2013 to let you know if you qualify. We’ll write to you when the discount has been made too.

I think I've got my answer, she has to be the bill payer. But if she was she'd qualify, you definitely don't have to be over pension age.

Just for those who may be wondering we won't be changing the bill in to her name.

    thanks again

    Hi rosiee

I'm really sorry we weren't able to help when you phoned.

Just to confirm what others have said, Warm Home Discount is only paid to electricity account holders or their partners who meet the qualifying criteria.

Our call centres have been briefed about this so should've been able to give you better advice. Sorry again this didn't happen.
