DFS - PPI claim

I bought a sofa in 2005 from DFS on interest free credit over 4 years. I recently discovered ppi had been added without my knowledge or consent.
I wrote to DFS who have replied very quickly saying "on checking your order we notice that you were advised on 2nd April 2005" (it does not state what I was advised of ) They have also enclosed a PPI -customer declaration which they would like completed to reflect the circumstances that prevailed at the time of the order, so that they can fully investigate.
Has anyone had a similar experience? My complaint is that I did not know ppi had been added so why do they need to know my circumstances?

To have any hope of a successful complaint just fill out any forms they send you with as much information as you can0

I filled in the required form and have now received a further rejection of my claim, on the grounds that I would have been given time to check the paperwork at the time of sale and that I was eligible for the ppi and did not have sufficient cover to protect the loan in the event of sickness etc.
However the letter does state that I can escalate my complaint to the Group regional controller Andrew Tweedale.
Has anyone gone down this route and had any success?0 -

What were your reasons for complaint?
What evidence do you have to support them?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

As I said in my original posting,my complaint is that I had no idea that ppi had been added to my loan.
I dont have any evidence but I know that it certainly wasnt discussed at the point of sale.0 -

That is a very weak complaint. Pretty much up there with the weakest you can get. Anybody can say that. Indeed, all the try-it-on complaints add that to their complaint. Very rare for complaints to be upheld for that reason. Typically another reason needs to be identified. The firm should investigate the complaint in other areas and if they find a failing, they will uphold. If they find no failing (in their opinion) then they will reject.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Dunstonh.
It may be a weak complaint but in my case and I suspect in many others, it happens to be true. I have therefore sent my letter off to the group retail controller and will follow up to FSA if necessary.0 -

You may be right. Problem is half of PPI complaints dont even have PPI and they make the same allegation as well. They cant just accept what you say as gospel. UK law puts the onus on you to show a wrong doing. The FCA complaints process is a little more consumer friendly than that but without evidence of wrong doing and no other failing identified then there is no reason for them to uphold the complaint.I have therefore sent my letter off to the group retail controller and will follow up to FSA if necessary.
The FSA do not handle consumer complaints. They wil send it back to DFS. You need to refer it to the FOS if you disagree with the outcome and feel the evidence will support your views and not theirs.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
