Yep, my experience is that if you provide readings within a week or so of getting a bill, they automatically generate a new one to replace it. Specifics depend on the company of course.
  • My actual readings are more.
    Electricity 2512kwh (£325)
    Gas 12850kwh (£494)
    Pay £130 a month
2 bed Terrace house with bedroom attic. 7 rads. During Dec-March 1.5 hours in morning, 5 hours evening

I'm with NPower on the same tariff (dual fuel, jan online) and your figures are perfectly reasonable.

Remember your gas usage will be low or next to nothing for the next 5-6 months if you're like me and switch the heating off at the boiler 'for the summer'.

So, your next 6-monthly bill will be a lot lower. My one always is (my bills arrive in early December and early June).

Each winter I tend to use around 250 or so units of gas (my meter is in cu ft) and 35 ish in the summer. I have an old boiler with a pilot light permanently on and it powers my shower and hot water, as well as the CH, hence the 35 units.

I'm in a 2-bed flat, just me, Victorian and poorly insulated (eg the windows are single glazed and have fans in them to help prevent condensation).

What you will find is that NPower can't keep the DD at the same level, so it'll vary wildly after each bill. This happens to me each year and I'm used to it now. It was £66 until Dec, then dropped to my current £32. I suspect once the new bill arrives my £400+ credit will be used up and I'll be in arrears so they'll double it again.

Hi uplift - As posted by molerat your Estimated Gas Bill is an overcharge of around £66, so the re-issued bill on actual reading will be lower

However you haven't posted your actual reading for the Elec meter, which if it's close to the Estimated reading, gives cause for concern.
2086 Kwh hours over 163 days works out to 12.79 Kwh a day - Athough this will drop a little in Summer, it gives an Annual figure of 4671 a year which is a huge amount for a house with Gas heating occupied by 2 adults

Your posts talks of an Elec fire - Just what is the set-up in this house for heating & hot water?

Are you saying you've used 18279 kWh of gas in 6 months??

Hi Brit 27 - I'm not familiar with your N'power tariff so maybe that is the reason I can't make sense of your figures, but they do seem strange.

    Oct Bill
4850 Elec Kwh cost £304.81 - This works out to 6.28p a Kwh which is appx. 50% cheaper than current prices
13,280 Gas Kwh cost £199.55 - This works out to 1.5p a Kwh which is less than half of current prices

    Apr Bill
4350Elec Kwh cost £300.94 - This works out to 6.9p a Kwh which again is 50% cheaper than current prices
18279 Gas Kwh cost £535.65 - This works out to 2.9p a Kwh which is appx 30%
    cheaper than current prices

Perhaps you could postthe No. of Meter Units on these bills, how many Kwh hours were charged and their unit cost

So their estimation isn't too bad, therefore leak unlikely? i thought i could smell gas when i checked for the reading but feel like i'm just being paranoid now.

I make it they have estimated you have used 26% more than you actually have;)

Your figures don't make any sense.

Annual consumption of 31,559 kWh of gas and 9200 kWh of electricity per year?
The average is just 16,500 kWh of gas and 3,300 kWh of electricity.

    Elec - 4850 kWh : £304.81 means 6.285p per kWh.
    Gas - 13,280 : £199.55 means 1.5p per kWh

    Elec - 4350 kWh : £300.94 means 6.918p per kWh
    Gas - 18279 : £535.65 means 2.93p per kWh

Lovely prices, but I don't think any nPower tariff offered them that cheap in the Kent region over respective periods. I fear your negotions won't go too well ...

I'll get back to you guys as I've only just got up (night shift worker) They have me on the Go-fix 8 tariff, although this isn't what I was on when I joined Dec 2011.
