Not eligible to apply for a Parking Permit, anyone had the same problem?

Hi
I rent in a block where they didnt inform me when moved in that an arrangement had been made with the Council /Developers and Housing Assoc. No tenants would be allowed to apply for a parking permit.
You cannot park onsite for more than 2 hours unless you buy a flat, then a parking spot is £10,000. As a private tenant I cant even apply and I dont have £10,000 anyway.
I bought a car in good faith and now I find I cannot park the car near home. When I contact the council I was told I could apply for a seasonal ticket for a year at £1010.00 a normal parking permit is £60 why should I have to pay so much more money to park in the same road as someone renting up the street?
I tried the Housing Assoc they arent interested. I tried a lawyer he said I have a case on the grounds of it being unreasonable but because its small fry I cant find a lawyer willing to take it on as Id need legal aid.
Im in Hounslow Borough and just wonder if anyone else has the same problem and what they did or if anyone has any good advice other than move or sell the car, yes someone did suggest that!

Hi
Thanks for your reply Im sure I explained my Land Lord is a Housing Assoc. and I cannot have a parking space unless I buy a flat and then buy a £10,000 parking space.
Sorry if I wasnt clear.0 -
Why didn't you check if there was adequate parking BEFORE moving there?
Personally I'd just park there anyway and see what they'll do.0 -
Unless you are disabled - why not walk to where you can park?
I don't live in Hounslow but I do have to walk to get to my car, sometimes its about 500-1000m, sometimes its further.
Parking is not a right.
If you dont like it - move elsewhere.0 -
I suspect there is a political agenda behind the scenes.
I would find somewhere to park as close as you can and live with the situation.
You have to balance below market rent with having easy access to your car.
Note I don't agree with such political correctness.
But that is what happens when the home you live in is owned by what is in effect a public body.
Housing Associations are a law unto themselves sometimes and not in a good way.0 -
Why should I need to, no one has every heard of this clause and some of my friends are 'in' property. Its all very well being wise after the fact. I dont think youd be so glib if it was you. All Im asking is for the same rght as the person 'renting' up the street from me. They dont have to own their property to get a parking permit!0

I do park my car elsewhere and have to get a train to collect it...good enough?0

Hi
Thank you for your reasonable comment. Your right of course there is a hidden agenda. I think the council do this because no one challenges them, two lawyers have both said chances are what they are doing is illegal. I just need to find a lawyer willing to take my case as in general terms its small fry.0 -
You need to use the quotation facility.
Otherwise it appears that you are saying my comments were glib.
But I will add that I have never been caught out by small print, as I always read it.
Though despite having children and being a key worker for over a decade the nearest I got to a HA property was a part rent part buy back in the 90's.
But there was small print there and plenty of little clauses.
It is part of the price you pay for below market rent and to get planning permission the HA will have to comply with the political motives of the Local Authority.
The good thing is you have only rented such a property.
How would you feel if you had bought!0 -
