Hi, it was just a foundation year on its own which then would enable her to go on to do a degree. It was just because she didnt have the necessary grades at A level so needed this to qualify for entry onto a degree course.

In that case she should be able to claim for at least part of this Summer, but probably not in other years.

Was it linked directly to the degree course - did she get loans/grants for it?

No it wasn't linked - they just told her that if she did the foundation year, she would stand a better chance of getting a place on the degree course the following year. But yes, she did get student loan/grant... I'm so confused. Some of her class have applied for JSA and some have been told no they don't qualify so I think she's just going to apply and wait for a decision from them. :o

just a bit off topic OP but its a wise choice by your daughter not to go on the social work course. ( its !!!! out there and she will be burnt out in a few years) however what job will she go for once she has completed her criminology degree?
my friend did that course and now shes a class room assistant.

Have you been claiming CB and CTC for him because this will stop if he claims JSA. Otherwise you can carry on claiming this until the end of August.
  • CB & CTC ended last year as my Son went to Uni, unfortunately hated course & city & is not going back but starting afresh, new course, new city in Sept. He was hoping to work but its not happening. He is going to claim JSA in the meantime & i was wondering what effect this would have on my benefits? Thnx for reply by the way Dunroamin.
